Watching these games today

We could absolutely be running CFB if we had a little bit better OL and some SPEED on the outside. Annoying to watch such a good defense repeatedly go to waste in terms of playoffs with the lack of speed/playmakers on offense. These teams couldn’t hold a candle to the Clemson/Bama teams back then.

NIL is spreading the talent around more, no one can stack like talent in all teas like we used to… that said, your point stands, Wesco and Moore are going to be the cheat code to unlock the offense next year, even with average OL play.

Exactly this. It created parity and hurt us and a few others more than most. We have players starting all over the country that would at least be quality depth.

it wasn't parity that hurt us....

missed completely on multiple years' WR haul, and then a QB who didn't have the demeanor of DW4 and TL16.

Yes, bad evaluations crippled us, not the NIL***

Exactly right man, that’s why I’m not as cynical as a lot on this board. Majority of the pieces are their we just need a couple more to push it over the top. This young core is going to be special we just need to sprinkle in some playmakers then we are right back to where we were.

I hope so, but people said the exact same thing about Noble

Noble Johnson wasn’t a top 10 recruit or a 5 star

Noble is a physical receiver not a finesse receiver with elite speed

I think the Covid year hit us harder then anyone else due to the way we recruit. We like to get everyone on campus and into camps for evaluation. We should also have some scholarships open for Dabo to dip into the portal which I believe he will. Not giving up on this season at all but I am stoked for next year.

No... it was the 2019 WR list that hurt us so badly

Oct 14, 2023, 4:59 PM

Freshmen that year were: Ladson, Ngata, and Spector. None of them ever panned out at all.

Of course, you've got me on "ignore", so you'll learn nothing here. Typical....

Ajou Ajou never panned out either. And Ross was never the same after his injury his sophomore year. Dacari Collins was a bust. Let's ot forget E.J. Williams a d Crosby too.
That's a lot of receiver's in a short amount of time that weren't as advertised or weren't coached up to their potential. I still put at least 50% of the blame on DJ.

This. We really missed on a bunch of guys and that's hurting our depth now, unfortunately.

classes". So yes, I agree with you that for "WRU", our recruiting classes over several years were completely embarrassing. Completely.

But it was 2019 that hurt so badly. That's the year before Covid so it had to be a good class, or else. And then when the momentum for recruiting dried up, there were no Upperclassmen to really set the tone.

That was also the class that was needed by DJU to step up in 2021 but couldn't. DJU isn't a complete QB by any stretch, but his games against BC and Notre Dame weren't flukes. We're seeing that as he plays now at Oregon State. So he could throw to Higgins/Rodgers/Overton, but couldn't to Ngata/Spector/Ladson. It's a simple fact even as some don't want to admit it.

Antonio is our first receiver in several years to be a complete player. Brown looks like the real deal too. Anybody between those dudes and Higgins/Rodgers were nothin but busts.

And yes, that includes...
