Two things the media doesn't get about our traditions

and I'm surprised the media guide or Tim Bourret or the new SID or whomever doesn't emphasize this more - or maybe they do and the media is just too dumb to get it:
(1) "Storming the field" - we don't "storm the field" after every game. It's a tradition called "Gathering at the Paw" and it didn't even used to have a name. As far as I know, we're the only D1/FBS team that not only allows fans on the field after a game but actually encourages it! Granted, sometimes we get on the field a little too early, like last week against NCSU, but still, it's not the traditional "storming the field" - it's one of our great traditions and one of the unique things I remember from games in the 70s and 80s when I was a kid - seeing those big football players up close, getting autographs, and tossing the football around out on the field. Great tradition and memories!
(2) The origins of "The Hill" - It's not a complex story, so I don't understand why none of the media seem to know it. It's very simple - in the old days (I don't know any of the dates of this stuff, and I may have it slightly wrong, but not much) the locker rooms were in Fike Fieldhouse and it was the shortest route for the team to go from there to the hill to the field. It became a tradition out of necessity. Once locker rooms were built in the WEZ, I think the tradition stopped for a while until someone suggested a bus take them around so they could run down the hill again like the "old days" (maybe that was the walk-on that Chris Fowler referenced Sat night?). And there's the tradition. Everyone knows about Howard's Rock, but no one knows why we run down The Hill and they should - it's not that complex and it's rooted in tradition and history and helps it all make more sense.
Every announcer at a Clemson home game should know this or at least have it available to them, if they don't already!

Regarding #1, I was surprised the Kirk Herbstreit didn't know (considering he had sons go to Clemson). Not sure if people caught his comment at the end of the NC State game, but I cringed. Disappointing.

Look for SEC type rules to stop "fan entering the playing facilities"... soon... we almost lost them a few years ago when we "accosted" the NCS coach . Most places would be in HORROR of 50,000 potentially attackers mobbing the field... Gathering at the Paw has been a joke for years...It was fine when a few of us kids went out to get a chin strap...This has seen it's time and it is over...

it.
No excuse for any of them NOT to know about any of our traditions. They're paid enough frigging money to do their homework.
Our new videoboard would be a terrific venue for a brief history of those traditions.

Ok, I’ll bite. I know all of y’all are just trolling anyway, but they obviously know about both. Hell, his sons go to Clemson. Kirk and Chris made a joke about it. sheesh!

If Clemson wins against a powerhouse thats ranked much higher than us historically and nationally at the moment....WE STORMING THAT FIELD....AND USED TO TAKE THE GOAL POST WITH US.
If it is a normal win.... lets say against a Virginia with nothing really at stake... we gather at the Paw...and maybe meet the girl you or I was drooling over... when she was sitting 80ft. from you.

There are no teams worthy of us storming the field. That ship sailed about a decade ago.

I'm pretty sure the tradition of the busses and the running down the hill were explained on ABC TV during the pregame show, while the players were leaving the locker room and getting on the busses.

To find out the true story of the tradition of taking the buses to the stadium, google Ben Anderson football and read the article by written about Ben.

Doesn't bother me one bit. These are our traditions. They are for and have meaning to us. No explanation needed to anyone. It's not for THEM, it's for US. GO TIGERS!!
