I hope he doesn't leave, but that snippet makes me uneasy. Just how he struggled to answer that question leads me to believe he is considering it. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I see where you draw your conclusion. I think BV really feels the way he says, but I think it all will depend on the offer. He is very loyal to Dabo and to Clemson, but he has a family, a career and maybe some personal goals for his future. Maybe his goal is to be at Clemson with his family, but maybe it's to be a HC somewhere good, and Arkansas is a pretty good gig by most standards. Frank Broyles certainly became a coaching icon there. Now, they do have bad, extremely horrible baggage, as well. Hootie coached there, so it isn't all a bed of roses.

To me it's interesting that he mentions a moral compass. I too have a problem with all these coaches demanding absolute loyalty from their players and then running off to a different school to make more $. Seems somewhat hypocritical to me. I know it's been this way for a long time, but it still seems a little crazy. I mean, Dan Mullen is coach of Mississippi State one day, and then he's making nutty gator gestures the next. Can't imagine the Bulldog fans were too thrilled with that. I don't know, how does anyone else feel about this?

No he won't leave he is to loyal to his players. I think loyalty means much to him. The trustees need to step up and see that there is no leaving with any coach

Needs to be enough $$$ to ameliorate failure & embarrassment
Dec 4, 2017, 7:48 PM

... to you and your family when you find out that you've gotten yourself in over your head and that although you were a great assistant/coordinator, you're not a cut out to be a head coach.
Failing at your chosen profession and getting very publically fired is no fun.
Some people can see that ahead of time and others are blind to the lure of the money.
And for some people, the money is enough.

The media needs to back off and let these men and the young men they coach fulfill their championship goals without distraction. Although, if current news is any indication, media members have a problem keeping their hands off of things or taking no for an answer.

but I feel like the price required to get Venables to leave his nice, stable, comparably low stress job as our DC and go into a tough, high stress, high failure rate of Arkansas's HC job is a high one. It would have to be an insane dollar amount, and one I don't think Arkansas has in their budget. I could be wrong, but I would be shocked if he goes there.

Don't forget the buy out they would have to pay. But it is time for another contract with BV to assure the stability of keeping him happy loyal. I would say a new 2 mil contract that would make him the highest paid assistant, and with a hefty buy out clause!!! As we have seen over the past 5/6 years, the key to championships has been with Dabo keeping his staff together and bringing in great replacements if and when one leaves. I think that BV would be irreplaceable, and Dabo would have to just hire the best that he could get to replace BV....

I love this man's passion and his moral compass. He may leave for a HC job, and if he does, I wish him nothing but the best. He has left it ALL on the field every game, and probably every day and every practice, and he has instilled that in this University FB Program. So proud we have him, and if he leaves, I will be so proud we had him, and I hope all of us send him off with the best of wishes.

Notice this says that Arkansas is interested in Venables, not necessarily that Venables is interested in Arkansas.

They haven't been relevant sinve Darren Mcfadden was there. Plus they have to play bama, lsu, a&m, miss st, and ole miss every year. Hard to rebuild a program with that kind of schedule every year. That doesn't include the chance to coach your son and win championships with him. Unless he's hungry for money, which idk why, he's the highest paid DC in the country then i wouldn't understand his reasoning on leaving for arkansas

He’s always said he has enough money and that money isn’t really a reason to necessarily leave. He also said he really hates moving. Also how much fun he could have to coach his sons through Clemson where he knows it’s a darn good chance to win championships.
All that being said, I sure hope this administration ponys up big dollars for him this year. Give him 3 mil in salary. I’ll gladly give more to keep him. I also hope they’re in his ear and his family’s ear to give them whatever they need or want.
No slam to Jeff or Tony but we’re probably close to the same offense production without them. We’re no where near the D output without Coach V. Without our defense this year, we’re another 9-3 team going to a crappy fla bowl.

One more thing, instead of writing speculation articles about coach v leaving. Let’s write an article thanking him and letting him know how much he means to several hundred thousand people who love him to death for being in clemson.
Let’s send him a Christmas card with 80000 thank you letters!!! And deliver it to his house.
If we can break tnet biatching we didn’t score enough this game, we can break it letting BV know how much we appreciate him B4 he goes anywhere!

Seems to me BV consistently shows his favor for the DC role and gets job satisfaction from developing near best in nation defenses year after year. His compensation has risen commensurate with his success. I doubt he'll risk family upheaval and a totally new role given his past preferences. Loyalty and job satisfaction are more important to many.

I think that BV takes in consideration, that being a great DC doesn't always mean that you're going to be a great HC. The best or biggest attribute for being a great HC, is being capable of being a great C E O at running a business, that college FB is. Dabo is experienced in FB with the mind to manage it with great success!!!
