Beautiful! This is how Clemson looked during my time there - 1948-52. The stadium held - can't remember if it was 20,000 or 40,000 then. I can see the "barracks" I lived in and Riggs hall where I had my CE classes.

Awesome.
After a few minutes of staring, I finally figured out what I was looking at. I graduated in 1996 and the campus looked very different. Pretty cool to hear that a guy who attended from 1948-52 talk about his memories of campus the same way some of us younger guys do.
Some memories stay with us like they happened yesterday.

The laundry was in that area, I think. This is exactly as it was while I was there 1956-1950. I lived in First, Second, and Third Barracks during my stay there. Third faced the Calhoun Mansion. The dinning room was under First Barrack.

That was a water treatment facility where the Stadium Suites(or whatever the new name is) are now. Dillard laundry building is on the other side of Fort Hill Street and further up the hill from Death Valley.

October 1967 I was a senior at Greenville High School & attended Clemson vs Alabama game in Clemson with high school buddy who passed away several years ago, Warren King. We went over to the visitors locker room to catch a look at Bear Bryant as he made his way toward the field. It was misting rain & Bear stepped out of the door as his players ran by, held out his hand, palm up, feeling the trickle of rain, glanced upward & the rain stopped. I turned to my friend & said did you see that? Bear just stopped the rain! Our Tigers lost a hard fought game that day 13-10. I think it was Charlie Waters 1st season on varsity & a guy who attended our church senior year,Freddie Kelly. All 3 Kelly brothers, Don, Steve & Freddie played for Clemson.

Not only did you see Bear Bryant, but Danny Ford played OT for Bama.

Didn't realize Library was built 1966

The library/pond/amphitheatre tend to be my centering point when looking at legacy photos of Clemson.
What are those buildings behind Riggs Hall?

Lord have mercy, thanks! A nice walk into the past, even before my times. But it provides all the iconic buildings that were there for my dad.

Love looking at those old photos. I still have the photomosiac of campus my group did in 1971 in The Fox's (Mr Rostron) photogrammetry class. Only 4 people signed up but they allowed him to teach it anyway. He took the photos using his own plane. That class later helped me on both the PE and LS exams. Boy how that profession has changed! Now its drones and lidar. Then it was two photos and a stereo plotter. Mr Rostron was hired to teach during WWII w/ a masters from SMU. Very few PHD's in those days teaching undergrads.

Mr. Rostron seems to be a great Teacher, it’s rare these days besides Dabo!

Great picture. Death Valley looks like a high school stadium. I do not see the Tincans. What year were they constructed??

The pre1950 aerial photo does not include Johnstone. The first section of tin cans went up in 1954...and so many memories were made...

Where's the tree that Joe21® sits under at the games? Even then, it had to be a decent size!
What a great photo! My first Clemson game was the '67 one versus 'Bama...a year after I had moved from Mobile to Charleston. I'd never even heard of Clemson. Now...nothing like orange-tinged Tiger blood!
