Not really. I'd have been shocked if he didn't transfer. The kids too good. He would have a shot at a big p5 school if he had some tape. But he could crush it somewhere like a liberty, Tulane, coastal, ucf... I don't necessarily think he has to go fcs. He's big, can definitely make the throws, and can run. Maybe wake or Duke. Or go play for Elliott.

Elliott will be at UVA through the 2024 season. It isn’t out of the question that he would earn the starter QB job.
UVA should be a top target for him.
Also, maybe (gulp) S.Carolina. Does Rattler have a COVID year to use? He’ll probably go pro regardless of whether he has a COVID year, given the paucity of talent at the OL and WR positions for the 2024 season. With QB Doty apparently nothing special, it is feasible that H.Helms would be the best QB in Columbia the moment he steps on campus.
H.Helms is good.

Totally agree. Rattler said he was considering his options but I just don't see him having anything to gain by staying. NFL knows what and who he is by now. I could see 3rd round for Rattler.
Would love to see hunter go to the coots. Every game next season will be prime time. He wouldn't have to win to shine. Not with that schedule. He'd be the hometown favorite and probably do really well on nil.

Expected. GR said earlier this year he thought Hunter was a starter at the right program.
To me this means we have to bring in at least another QB.

Some of our fans have argued that H.Helms should have gotten playing time Bach time our current QB did one of those ‘hero’ plays that ended up in a pik, fumble, failure to reach the goal line as time expired, or one of those toss the ball into the air plays after waiting too long to get rid of the ball when under pressure.
A temporary stint on the bench to give our starting QB some in person / live game tutoring from G.Riley would have seemed to be useful. The bench is a great way to get someone’s attention. This is not to say that H.Helms would be the starter … unless he really showed out (which we will never know) … but rather to give our current starter QB some lessons.

… getting some time to gather yourself on the bench also lets the team reset.
Sitting on the bench for some pointers from the coaching staff can help in a lot of ways AND gives the backup a little time on the field.

Happy for him but he looked smoother than Cade with the ball in his hands.He also seem to see the field better. I had a lot of confidence in him when he was on the field. History repeating as the QB that transferred out to Duke and App State would have performed better than DJ and we would have beaten Georgia couple years back in that opener. That started out slide. He looked like a QB yo me.

What the coaches saw in practice of our starting QB did not appear to be consistently close to what the coaches saw of him on the field.
I suspect that our coaches were more concerned that (1) our starting QB would transfer out if he perceived his shot at being THE star at Clemson was drifting away from him -&- (2) our coaching staff was subconsciously anxious that a second consecutive 5* QB bust (the guy who transferred to OR State being the other one) was more than they were prepared to handle.
Look, I’m fully supportive about how Dabo runs our program. Sometimes things just don’t work out as per the top end expectations for a player.
J.T.Daniels (5* QB originally played for the real USC) comes to mind.
Faton Bauta (4*QB at UGA) … I think that was the guy to whom UGA was committed; that helped to pave the way for D.Watson to come to Clemson … also comes to mind.
2024 season is when CK2 will shine. If that doesn’t happen, then it will be time to move on.

You may be supportive of the Clemson program , but you have no problem making unsubstantiated claims about how the process has unfolded with Klubnik and how the coaches may have been playing it.
It's fairly certain that Klubnik was the best QB , not Helms. It's also usually obvious when the guy who was the best in the coaching staff's minds plays every single snap except garbage time. There was no ambiguity and no reason to think there was an alternative to what we all saw.

IF DJ doesn't throw that pick 6 we beat UGA. They couldn't move the ball on us at all. We may have beat them just by kicking FG's even with the pick 6.

I thought HH played a good Spring game. Was wanting to see a little more of him this season.
Was standing at the top of the hill talking to a stranger at that game and it ended up being Hunter’s brother(small world). Seems a few in that family are of the SC variety. Glad he chose Clemson and that he enjoyed his time here. Wish him well!

I really hate to see a QB depart. I remain a "Doubting Thomas" on Cade! He continues to get himself in jams and then just tosses the ball up for grabs to keep from being sacked. The game appears to be too fast for his read, movement and making a decision on what to do! He also doesn't have the stable of receivers that were here for Deshawn and Trevor to make him look good.

Makes sense for him. Cade has the job for a few years and Vizzina also set to play next year. And realistically, I would hope they bring in another big-time recruit in case plan A and B can’t get them to top level

Several years ago when a lot of folks thought we had too many QBs - TL16, KB2, Chase, Hunter Johnson, etc - Dabo said his expectation is to have 5 QBs on scholarship. If we only have 2 returning and none committed for 2024, sounds like we need to find a few.

Most guys hit the portal cause they want to go somewhere to get playing time. So idk who we’d get that is gonna come in to be a 3rd string guy unless they just really want the Clemson experience.
Guys aren’t gonna transfer when Cade has the job wrapped up right now.

We’ e been hitting the portal for Sr. QB’s; Paul Tyson was brought in this year as an emergency backup. I suspect that is how we will keep doing it; the super stud QB’s that can give us 3 years is how to restore the glory years. In other words, by hitting it big with a HS QB.
I haven’t given up on the chance that another D.Watson or T.Lawrence type QB ( or a Taj Boyd or Charlie Whitehurst type QB) will end up being recruited and winning big for us.

Part of the issue is with the portal idk if people are just gonna site behind guys and not play. It’s a worry I have about Vizzina. Will he be cool sitting behind Cade for another 2 years?

I would like to see Viz get meaningful snaps. I get that QB3 isn't getting any when QB2 is getting garbage time; but with HH gone, a year under his belt, and a month to prepare, Viz should get a series or two. He's one play away from being the guy.

Vizzina is in perfect position to win the QB job outright for 2024 season … but he’s got to EARN it and truly beat out CK2.
Whether Vizzina is that good or not, we’ll see.
Regardless, Vizz is unlikely to bolt if he doesn’t beat out CK2 for 2024 season. Heck, it is not a hard thing to foresee him sticking around for 2025 season on the bench if we have returned to our CFP status again.
Again, he’s got to earn it; if Vizz earns it then he’ll start when that time arrives.

My opinion, but I do not like the philosophy of us kind of agreeing not to bring in another QB just to get a commitment. It seems that we do this a lot? When I think back to our better days, it seems as though we had a qb room over full of 4-5 QBs. Yes most of them left the program. The cool part was those that remained were All-Americans. Cade and Vizzino need to feel
the pressure of real competition. We will never reach national championship levels by having any QB be given the job. Sure coaches say tbat they are tbe best? It might be true, when you water down the competition I'm sure they are tbe best of what we have.... Just opinion, but I think the current strategy on QBs sux!!

Lots of schools do that; if they don’t keep that promise then the HC gets a bad reputation.
We brought in Vizz the very next recruiting class after CK2.
CK2 came in here knowing that there was a good chance that he’d be on the bench his first year.
It’s not just that Dabo will sacrifice a season to please a QB that perceives that he is ‘owed’ the starting job; the requirement is that the ‘patient’ WB still has to either be better or equal to his competition in order to be the starter over a ‘newby’ WB.

With the portal so easily accessible, it's much harder now to have a good backup QB. If they are good, they know they can start somewhere else. This is why the 5th year experienced QB's that Dabo is bringing in is probably the best option. Someone who can play in an emergency and has some game experience to essentially be your QB3.
