I’m just glad that there were no fatalities in the accident.

There is no excuse for driving that fast. Folks could have easily been killed and this young man would be serious criminal charges that would alter his life forever.

There also isn't an excuse that most of us when that age has done the same thing as flying down the road at over a hundred MPH, I have, and most of us have. I just hope and pray that the mail carrier, and anyone else that was injured will make a full recovery without a life time disabilities. I'm almost absolutely sure that Fred will learn a valuable lesson from his brain fart forgetting that speed kills, and it is usually the innocent that are injured, and killed, but I truly believe that Fred will learn from this, and he will become an example for young men his age to hopefully learn from Fred's carelessness that will be attached to his full name for the rest of his life!!! I pray that God will bless, and heal everyone involved in that accident....

Yes. I think most of us did that . But not in an area like that that is highly congested. It was on a country road or an isolated stretch of highway. It wasn’t near a busy interchange. This was much worse than what a lot of us did as kids. This was beyond stupid!
When I was at Clemson in the 80s, and high school, I never did anything that reckless or that stupid that put other people in danger.
Yeah yeah some smart ### is going to call me an old man and get off my lawn blah blah blah. The truth hurts! The older I get the more I realize how smart and wise my parents were when I was a kid. With age comes self-awareness, the ability to understand context, and yes, a certain degree of wisdom.
A lot of people won’t like this, but he’s a scholarship athlete at Clemson. Student athletes, especially those on scholarship, have a greater responsibility to not be stupid! And now that NIL and other things are coming into play, players are going to have to be even more cautious. The age of social media and NIL make what these kids do today far more stupid than what we did. It shows their lack of self-awareness.
Again, people won’t like this, but it is true, kids today are not as mature as kids in the 60s 70s and 80s, etc. they are more easily manipulated, they have been far more sheltered, and they have been indoctrinated and brainwashed since kindergarten.
If you think I’m wrong go watch the video of Jonathan Haidt on Bill Maher or any of his presentations on YouTube or read his book: The Coddling of the American Mind”. FYI he’s a liberal Democrat. Not a conservative. Maybe the best video to watch on YouTube is him and Malcolm Gladwell. Just search their names on YouTube.
He deserves to sit for a year. I’m hoping Dabo will give him at least a four to six game suspension. Not from practice. But have him in street clothes on the sidelines during the first six games. Better yet, have him stay home during the game. Don’t even let him be on the sidelines with his friends. A strong message needs to be sent.

I agree with you. It is a miracle that no one was killed. I can’t imagine the pain the postal carriers is experiencing or the concern of the family.

You will make an excuse for anything for a player. Send his aasss to the portal and let Kirby deal with his total lack of intelligence. I have news for you, I was at Clemson as a student and never approached anywhere near 115 mph while driving.

I'm not perfect, but I haven't driven over a 100 mph, probably 80 mph fastest on the interstate just keeping up with traffic. I don't know anyone who has driven over 100 personally.
So not everyone has done it, not by a long shot.

Agree. Not at the moment of impact! He is busted, but getting a 19 year old a Hemi-Charger is NUTS. Still lucky nobody was killed or seriously injured. A serious incident! Dabo will do the right thing. He got Sammy Watkins straightened out. He will either grow up now, or struggle elsewhere.
When the legal drinking age was 18, it was worse than this at Clemson!

Did you not read the whole story? The guy in the mail truck was seriously injured and almost killed. As the article stated, if not for modern safety technology somebody probably would’ve died in that accident!

I say make him play against UGA as a punishment, but suspend for SC State. UGA will be tougher for him physically and SC State is a stat-padder.

You received improper benefits. You'll have to serve your suspension AFTER the bowl game, at the beginning of next season, should you choose to return for your senior year (which you won't since you're going pro).

Like I said, Slow Down. There is simply no reason to drive like an Ahole

At that speed, he could have easily killed himself or worse - someone else. I don’t know what needs to happen, but something does. My car can detect the speed limit. Maybe 20 mph over the posted limit and the car will slow down. Drones…. Who knows. People simply cannot be held responsible for being decent human beings anymore. And the lack of confident law enforcement officers is enabling reckless driving. Maybe to some people it’s cool to drive like a #######.

There is simply no reason that any car sold to the public should be able to go 115mph. Quick off the line, I understand. Power to pass, sure. Excessively fast? No. I know Davis wasn't trying to hurt anyone, but he did, and he should be held responsible. He can start by giving any NIL money he can get to the woman he hurt, although he's not likely to get much in the near future.

Howdy there fascist
FYI, virtually every car sold today can do 115 aside from some that are electronically limited.
This is a typical liberal point for view. Because one person misused it nobody else should be allowed to own one.

Hell, he may be on the UGA sideline by then. Kendrick fit in fine in Athens. That's a system any lawbreaker would fit into. But seriously, I hope the mail carrier will rebound without very little lingering problems. And Mr. Davis needs to quit driving like the hundreds of a-holes I see everyday on I-285, I-85, and I-75.

Well one little problem. Out West there are places where there is no speed limit. Basically you can drive whatever you want that is safe for conditions. There’s also the Autobahn and other places where you can drive excessively fast. But those cars are built safer and they are required more training to get a drivers license.

There is a very simple reason why cars can, and still do, go over the speed limit. Its called speeding tickets. Theres a lot of money to be made from all those tickets. At this point, it would be very easy to put governors into all new vehicles and have them regulated by gps. If they did....no more speeding ticket fines. Think of it as a voluntary tax for your vehicle

Our state needs to hire more troopers. Drivers are getting worse. I’m guessing the troopers we have now are spending a majority of their time working accidents. Need more on the roads watching for reckless drivers.

hear about charges. I knew someone that was on 123 on that day and she commented on how the Dodge passed her at a high rate of speed and was weaving in and out of traffic just before the accident.
The locals (I'm a local) put together a collection to help the injured woman and her family out during this time. Hopefully, he was well insured so that she gets her medical bills and such covered with no issue. The charges against Fred would help expedite that I suppose.

Hopefully her medical expenses will fall under workers comp - if she was driving the USPS vehicle you would think she was on duty. Davis should still be liable as well. Certainly not looking to diminish his responsibility at all. There are multiple reasons here that she should not have to pay for these medical bills.

Workers comp will definitely kick in and so will his insurance company. Probably to the tune of some pretty hefty numbers. The government won’t be able to take his license away permanently but the free market will regulate and it will cost him a fortune to drive when he finally does get that license back.

No one is perfect and im sure a lot of us have driven over 100 mph. I was on open highway and was close to 150. Pretty friggin scary. The point is that there was no one else around. Davis was weaving in and out of traffic. Thats completely irresponsible. He is now responsible for a serious injury. He has actually endangered the friggin team with his actions. He was probably a starter on one side, on a team already low on corner numbers.....now, who knows??? As much as i hate to say it, he must be held responsible for these actions. He is a sports figure of some stature. He is on the brink of huge money. If he gets away with it, the sense of entitlement will enable him to excuse even more behavior.

No sir. I think 80 is about the highest for me. That was in a 70 mph zone. When I saw it I slowed down to 70. I try to stay in the right lane as much as possible and let the others zoom by. They are the ones who will get pulled over or something worse, God forbid.

Some of you act as if he intentionally ran into someone. Is that what you would be thinking if that had happen with one of your kids, no you wouldn't, so stop acting like that is what another parent kid done....

YOU dont seem to understand. Intentional or not, he is responsible. I suppose he should not be held responsible? He must have his day in court, just as any other. If not, why have laws? Kind of like letting a bunch of illegals across the border....

In middle school I invented the idea for an automated speed regulator that slows cars down. We are basically there now as our GPS units know the posted speed limits. Theoretically the computers in our cars could be programmed to limit our speeds in correlation with the speed limit. It would save lives and prevent grave injuries. Maybe it’s a good thing to contemplate.

No you didn't. You had an idea of something that already exists and thank God people like you are not in charge (they are but not where I live). Amazes me how eager some folks are to send the country straight into Nazi Germany territory.

Considering that we have cars that drive themselves, it wont be long until all driving will be automated. Figure that within another 20 years, it will be illegal for a person to drive on the highway. I hope the day doesnt come, but it will.

You are wrong, it would cause more accidents, and probably more deaths, just like the idiots that get in the left lane, and drive the exact speed as the person in the middle or right lanes. You're only wanting to control what everybody behind does until, somebody gets road rage and runs over you, it happens every single day somewhere, if you're doing that, it will happen to you one day. The world has changed, it's not the same as it was when you were a kid, and your mom or dad was behind the wheel, they were probably smart enough to get in the slower traffic keep right lane ( it's the law), and got out of others way!!!

Classed as a misdemeanor? I dunno. Seems like an auto going over twice the posted speed limit becomes sort of a deadly weapon. The fact that no one died is fortunate, but luck should not enter into the legal or the civil consequences.
Not sure what the penalty should be, but if I were the postal worker, my perspective would be pretty clear.

It's amazing

that some of us made it out of our teens. Consequences never seemed real..it wouldn't happen. For some reason, we just never evolve out of that. Horrible thing to happen to be someone just doing their job and suddenly have a chunk or maybe all of their life effected by someone else's stupidity. That's not a beat down on Davis by any means. To play football, you have to have an extra measure of the invincibility complex or no one would walk out on the field. The exhilaration far outweighs the consequences. Driving fast is an exhilaration. Invincibility + Exhilaration = Major stupid. Most guys have entered the category of Major Stupid. I know I did some Major Stupid. Again, a wonder many of us made it out of our teens.

Here is major stupid, jumping out of a perfectly flying airplane with ropes tied to something like a sheet. That's major stupid, but most of them live to do it again, and again, and again. But for some, that sheet tied to ropes doesn't work, and their last thought before they hit the ground at a high rate of speed was, why did I jump out of a perfectly flying airplane!!! They did it bc it's exciting to them, just as driving fast does for some!!!

if you jumped out of a plane over a crowded football stadium and your chute failed sending the weight of your body into the crowd at high speed injuring or killing someone.
Davis did not thrill seek in a vacuum. He did it in a place where he put the lives and health of others at risk.
He didn’t jump out of a plane over a deserted area, he did it over a crowded venue and he landed on an innocent person.

Misdemeanor determined by miles per hour above limit, for example: 1-10 mph: $15-$25 11-14 mph: $25-$50 15-24 mph: $50-75 25 mph and over: $75-$200 Speeding fine for South Carolina- so is that $75 -$200 per each mile and hour over the posted limit? $4,500-$12,000 in fines- insurance will be through the roof- plus he can be or the owner of the car can be sued for anything else. Good to hear no body lost their life! Kids do stupid stuff- he can't let it ruin his life. I am sure Dabo will will make him regret it- (not saying that he does not already).

He's not a kid. And it's disgusting that so many people here say "Ah kids will be kids" when a woman almost died. This is no different from drinking and driving and almost killing someone.

25 mph and over: $75-$200 Speeding fine for South Carolina- so is that $75 -$200 per each mile and hour over the posted limit? $4,500-$12,000 in fines

This is bad and there should be consequences but IMO it should be a life lesson not a career shift. I would be willing to be a lot of us have driven too fast, especially as kids. He needs to know how dangerous it is for himself and others. Even if you have to teach him to be more selfish and think about the fact that he could ruin his football career with a dumb car accident then do it. Maybe some volunteer time at an ER would get through.

The young man made a mistake. He is very fortunate that he did not get killed or kill someone else. He is not the first college student to make a stupid decision and will mot be the last. He will face his consequences and hopefully learn from his mistake. I am not throwing stones at this young man because I am an imperfect human also. I was at Clemson when the legal drinking age was 18. I knew better but, drove my car a couple of times when I was toasted. Thank God I never wrecked or caused injury to someone. I turned out to be a productive member of society and now never drink and drive. I believe that Davis will do the same and not drive like a bat out of hell down the road again.

Prayers for the mail carrier and Fred. Yes, young people make stupid mistakes. It’s the reason their auto insurance is so expensive- and why my parents would only let me drive the family car with the least HP, a VW that could barely muster 70 going downhill.

Time to remove this parasite from the program. There is no need to have people with this type of character in the school or program. Will see if the talk of family and character are really true. This postal worker has been seriously injured and family is in bad shape.

I did not like the comment either, but I thought it was about the athlete entitlement mentality. Someone allowed that 19 year old to have a Hot Car for college. Obviously a mistake! That mentality is much worse at other schools where they treat them like pros, and don’t care if they graduate! A lot of other words would have been more appropriate, but it is not racist?
Seems like you have some type of race-phobia?

Very thankful that nobody was killed in the accident. Kids have no clue how to drive within the speed limits and many have no desire to do so. There is zero reason for a person to drive that fast, period.

Fred Davis did something stupid, got lucky the consequences were not worse, will be held accountable by the Police and I expect Dabo to have additional consequences for Fred. He can either accept the additional team penalties like Booth did a few years ago for the incident at Louisville or not. He has no penalty if he chooses. It to face them and transfer to another school, ow that there is no requirement to sit out a year. If he chooses that route we don’t need him on the team anyway. All of the previous has impact to the Clemson football team.
The amount of political hot takes around this story on this board is indicative of why many don’t visit the board anymore. Too many people want to try to be cute or clever and twist everything into something political or a comment on their view of society. Too much of discourse on this board is about anything other than Clemson Sports. Hopefully, that will change when practice starts next week and we are a month away from kickoff in Charlotte.

I went through my Clemson student career on a bicycle. No way I was doing 115. I did more than my share of stupid stuff during that time. Fortunately no one got hurt, but I did get into some trouble. It became a learning experience and after some mandated time away I graduated and my mistakes were not held against me when applying for a job and I went in to a successful and rewarding career. By the way - I haven’t had as much as a parking ticket since. This young man needs to be held accountable for what he did but it doesn’t need to ruin the rest of his life - if he learns from it and changes his behavior.

Total disregard for the lives of other people when someone

drives like a maniac. And going 115 mph is the extreme of that description. As long as society makes excuses like "we all did stupid things when we were young" it will only get worse. In Atlanta, we see the mobs gather at intersections that have been "taken over" and cars spinning around and we are sick of it. I see wreckless driving all the time in Atlanta. And they are never sorry about it until something like this happens. Then they have big crocodile tears and they are sorry and they are young and they will learn and they had it rough growing up, etc etc. Are they that #### dumb that they can't figure it out before they cause severe injury or kill someone. They drive very cocky and sure of what they are doing. They cut in and out at high speeds thinking that all of the rest of us are bad drivers. It doesn't even dawn on them that we are helping to make sure they don't wreck by seeing ahead of time what they are doing and driving on the breaks to allow them.
No excuses and no we didn't all do something that #### dumb as driving 115 mph and endangering the lives of every single person on the road that day. Most of us, even at that coddled age, knew better. A man just trying to make a living and doing his job almost wasn't able to go home to his family or continue with the rest of his life. Why? Because a spoiled brat that wasn't smart enough to connect the dots from what he was doing to what the potential consequences were, was driving wrecklessly and,but for the grace of God, in a homocidal manner.
I don't feel sorry for the driver. I feel sorry for the victims and their families. I feel sorry for the court system and police that have to deal with his nonsense. I feel sorry for his teammates that have to put up with this distraction and defend him. I feel sorry for the insurance company that was insuring him. I know, you don't hear someone feeling sorry for an insurance company very often. But it's the last auto insurance company that will have to pay for him because I don't see any way he will ever get auto insurance again. If he does, he will pay a pretty price, but I don't see it happing. I hope all the Uber drivers in his future are better drivers than he was.

Clemson DB booked for reckless driving
The Clemson police department released a press release on Sunday about a wreck that happened on July 21. "This is an updated release from the July 21st, 2021 Crash Investigation involving a US Mail Carrier. The Clemson Police Department traffic collision reconstruction specialists have analyzed the Read Update » |
This same young mam almost hit me coming into Greenville about 1.5 hours earlier. Speeding, looking or texting on his phone, and swerving in and out of traffic. I was lucky he didn’t hit me. Got a good look at him at a red light on 123. Fate caught up with him heading back to Clemson on 123. So thankful it wasn’t me. Prayers for the mailman/mailwoman.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but the police chief's statement

is way out of line. It's not for him or any police officer to say what the penalty should be or voice their opinion - especially in a public forum. In my experience, standard with the Clemson Police. If I were Davis' lawyer, I would be all over him. Their job is to enforce the law and investigate the facts. Full stop. He was going 115 and charged with reckless driving. That aside, he's not a kid - he knows what he was doing. Penalty to the full extent that presently exists. Sorry bud. Plus, you gave injury to another person - thats on you. But that is for a judge to decide, who by the way, is not the chief of police.

idiotice behavior and he is trying to save lives. You may be right. If its against the law for him to say it, then call a cop on him. I, for one, am glad he said it and hope they pass that legislation in South Carolina. The arrested driver is not the victim here. If Davis'lawyer's best defense is for him to play the victim and nit pick on semantics, he might need a new lawyer.
I know he's going to need another one eventually because I don't think criminal defense lawyers defend you in the civil courts also And there will be a civil case.
This is the old rational thinking law. Do the benefits of doing something outweigh the possible costs. If they don't, then a rational person will decide not to do it. It's why most people don't do stupid things.
I hope Davis thoroughly enjoyed that few seconds of speed because he's going to be paying for it for a long time. He needs to be very thankful the victim survived.

Praying for the victim and family. I imagine after the Courts and Dabo get finished with Fast Freddie, he will wish he had used that speed on the field instead.

I pray for the injured to recover fully. At 19 our brains are still 3 years from being formed fully. Teenagers do stupid things never intending to hurt anyone. He will be dealing with this & a civil case too.
I hope he learns like I did at that age. I was no Angel, I had a 1974 Camaro with a built motor that I worked & paid for fully along with the motor, insurance etc. I drove several times after drinking & not drinking over 140-165 mph on two lane roads. It’s only by the grace of God I’m alive. I got my Drivers License 2 weeks after turning 15 & had saved money to buy this car. At 18 I got busted for wreck-less driving the last time( it wasn’t even me that time but I had did plenty to deserve it lol) & lost my Drivers License for 90 days.
I did learn a lesson because my next ticket was 25 years later for 67 in a 55 in the interstate in Greenville. The only other speeding ticket I’ve ever had.
Fred will learn & grow from it but he’s still a kid, Dabo will handle his discipline as he has always done with his players.
Example Kendrick.... it’s going to hurt Dabo’s secondary but it was the right thing to do. Dabo will make him be responsible or he will remove him from the team.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Dabo takes the team over to the injured’ s house to help out.
Fred’s a Clemson man, he’ll figure it out.

Only thing I can do is what Coach Swinney is doing

Pray.
Pray for Ford & for his strength to not miss this opportunity for growth & to come out a better person & with a future that won't be taken for granted.
And pray for the victim. There's is no doubt that Coach Swinney has prayed for her, has asked the team and Fred Davis to pray for her & likely prayed for her together. Consider prayer & trust our coaches will do what's best from top to bottom.

There sure are a lot of snowflakes on here who still need there mommy and blankey. No wonder that I'm disappointed in what my alma mater is producing these days.
I'm 67 years old and every vehicle I've ever owned, including the motorcycles, plus the ones that my parents provided me as a teenager has been driven as fast as it would go on multiple occasions. All but one of them over 115 mph, which was a pickup that was governor limited to 92 mph because it was sold with P rated tires. After the tires were upgraded to T rating, and the governor disabled, it did too.
I don't know exactly how fast most of them would go, because the majority of them only had 120 mph speedometers, but they all would bury that. One of my current cars one is governed at 157 mph and the other will bury the 160 mph speedometer. The fastest was a race modified but street legal turbocharged RX7 that would touch 180 if everything was perfect at 15 psi boost. If everything wasn't perfect you just got melted aluminum. It just lives in the barn now with a dead engine.
From 1978 to 1984 I had a 60 mile commute each way. This was during the time when radar detectors were better than radar. I drove the majority of that trip over 100 mph every day. It never took over an hour and often only 45 minutes. Yes that is averaging 80 mph through country 2 lane roads with 2 small towns with red lights to slow down for. I have never had a speed related accident, only slow speed fender benders in city traffic from idiots not paying attention. I have had a few speed related accidents in boats since they tend to want to become airplanes over 100 mph.
Fred will pay his fine and take his punishment as I have many times from speeding tickets. He will learn a lesson, but whether he will slow down, or just be more careful while pursuing his adrenaline rush is yet to be determined. The rest of you need to grow a pair and quit being such snowflakes. Wauuugh!

I'm thankful it wasn't a woman you love in your family that was hurt, then.
Still, I have no reason to believe the victim is a pansy, as you describe it. It's a tragic accident, but encouraging people to create the same risk seems excessively tone-deaf here, particularly while Ford is still in jail.

So I'm a snowflake if I don't condone aggressive driving?

That is a ridiculous attitude. Driving like a maniac and endangering the lives of others does not make one manly or have "balls." If you feel that way, you must be overcompensating for something yourself. There is ZERO excuse for going 115 MPH in a 55 zone while weaving through traffic like a madman. I am disappointed that my alma mater produced someone that thinks that is acceptable, particularly in light of the serious injuries to an innocent party. You would probably be singing a much different tune if that mail carrier was your wife or daughter.
