ACC exploring moving headquarters out of Greensboro
The ACC is exploring moving out of its longtime headquarters out of Greensboro, North Carolina, according to a report from longtime ACC writer David Teel. They are using a Texas-based real estate advisory firm (Newmark) to judge the current location, as well as former Power Five commissioners Kevin Read Update » |

I bet that he is sick of Swofford coming in and acting as if he was still in charge. I could see that prick doing something like that!!!

But the others, Hayul No! NY, Boston, Florida, et. al., would be moving for movings sake. Let us hope that cooler, more rational heads prevail. The ACC does not need his 'stamp' on it. We were here (existence) long before he arrived and will be here long after he is gone. So far, I am VERY suspicious of the new Commissioner. Change for changes' sake, phalates dead rodents.

LOL! So Jacksonville, FL! Jacksonville or Charlotte. Raleigh would be too much of like being in Greensboro.
Wait, if they move that far away can we still use the, "Tobacco Road" reference?

what are we talking about here? 50 -100 employees? Why do they have to "talk" to another city? Do they expect a city to build them an office building?
I can get you about 5 locations on wo0druff rd alone than can house "THE ACC" headquarters.

North and South the ACC has teams from Boston to Miami. East to west the league has teams from Louisville to NCSU. The conference office needs to have excellent non-stop air from anywhere to the headquarters. The 'big four' are the reason the ACC is now in Greensboro.
Charlotte looks logical to me.

What would be the reason to move since Greensboro is probably pretty close to the center point of the conference?

You move out of Greensboro because its not a top tier city and doesn't represent the "brand" you're trying to portray. Yes, the SEC is based in Hoover/Birmingham, but basically Atlanta is the SEC capital so you have a top tier city.
Charlotte is the only city that makes sense. It has a top tier national airport for executives to use. It has multiple fortune 500 companies headquartered there. Outside of COVID, it has a large, clean, growing center city area to wine and dine tv, media, business partners. You have tons of ACC alums working all over Charlotte, and it already has the football championship and should have the baseball and basketball tournament at least 50% of the time in my opinion.

ACC needs to have its headquarters in a major city. Being in Greensboro offers no advantages.

I'm more of a traditional person. I see no reason to move it. What kind of advantage do you gain from moving your headquarters. I just hope it stays in the carolinas since it is the heart of the league with 5 of the league members. Also if you think about it Greensboro is about a 6 hour or less drive for 1\2 the league members from UVA to GT.

Agreed. Not sure it makes any sense to move the HQ. Why does easier travel necessarily matter? It's not like games or championships are played there. I don't have a problem with moving if that is what is decided I just don't see the point in moving just to move

But that won't change regardless of where the ACC home offices are located. Your point is well made but from what I understand it is a great place to see basketball so it will be used regardless

I was involved in the building of the ACC Headquarters back in 1988 when Gene was the commissioner. That building was full of embedded Tiger Paws including a large one depressed into the slab under Gene's office. The ACC moved out of that office over to Grandover which was a vast upgrade from that crappie building. The best thing for Clemson is to get the headquarters out of the Triad which is completely controlled by two of the Triangle Schools. Move it to Jacksonville.

Why in the world would anyone (much less the ACC) want to move to New York, Boston, or D.C. (i.e. the Northernmost footprint of the ACC) when they could move it to the Southernmost location of the ACC footprint in Miami? Have they not done the "hot women" and "winter weather" analysis as part of this move?
I guess Jim Phillips is trying to get away from Swofford and all his cronies in North Carolina. Just hope he keeps the ACC in the Southeast and hope they are not seriously considering locating up North (and that includes that hellish swamp hole of Washington D.C.).

The new commissioner seems to be more proactive than Swoffie. This is more than a cosmetic move. I sense he wants the new home to be reflective of a bigger, more powerful conference. Get the ____ out of North Carolina. Atlanta would be nice....stick it to the SEC. Even New York would be okay. It would make Birmingham look minor league by comparison. Remember, these days, image is important.
