The defense was simplified this past season and took a huge step back. I have high hopes for the offense this season and will keep my fingers crossed.

To be fair, we were going from a seasoned DC (maybe the literal best in CFB) to a baby-faced rookie so there was absolutely going to be a step back. On the other hand the offense is essentially going in the opposite direction of what the defense did. I'm like you though, my fingers are crossed we have a top 3 type offense this season! And hey, maybe Wes gets his crap together and we have a top 3 defense too. That would mean playing for a Natty I would imagine.

Riley and Cade will make a BIG difference in the offense but

they have a ceiling as long as our WRs are who they are.
Speed, separation, & TALENT is what they need.............maybe they improve, but right now they don't hold a candle to our past "top 5-8" offense WRs.........not close.
the last couple years we've had a poor excuse for an OC matched w/ a less than stellar QB to go along with BAD WRs.
Elite WRs are the last ingredient needed to return to an elite offense.

I agree we may have a ceiling based on less than the most awesome wide receivers, BUT Riley took a team to the Marty with less than the most awesome players. Basically one deep roster. So I think our ceiling is really really high, because we 2 deep. Lol. Really though, the players we have can do amazing things if coached correctly. That's how we got where we are. Then the coaching tapered off and we declined. It is nice though, that 10 and 11 wins are our decline. When I was at Clemson, it was much worse. Thanks Tommy West and Bowden!
Go Tigers!

receivers when the QB is incapable of getting it to them.
When we inserted a more capable QB, then recievers showed up.
Poor feebo. Gonna be tough to find phony complaints this year.

Please don't complain about our down recent seasons! When I was at Clemson, we won 5 games total in two years! (2-9, 3-6-2).
We got blown out on the road or in Death Valley back in 1975. Just look at the scores, not the replays..... Awful, much worse that West or Bowden. After that Orange Bowl in 1982, I got over all those bad games!
2023 Looks good for football, so far! Go Tigers, Beat Dook!

just a reality spin........the fact that you don't see the talent difference of our WRs compared to our 2015-2019 teams is evidence of just how clueless YOU ARE..........call the NFL and let them know your insights.

IF they run their routes, you are going to see some WIDE open receivers in this offense

I understand speed and separation are important, but the air raid doesn’t depend on 6-5 receivers that run 4.3 40’s and win 50-50 balls 90% of the time.
If they run the routes well, they will be open and all they have to do is catch it

The games we lost had more to do with offensive ineptitude than the defense flat having the doors blown off of them from a superior team. When we did get in a shootout we actually won (WF).
The defense wasn't perfect or up to BVs level but Wes held his own in his first year and I felt waaaaaay more confident in his abilities vs Streeter.
Losses:
1. ND - cold windy night on the road. They ran it down our throats but the defense held it together enough that we still had a shot until CKs pick near our own end zone in the 3rd.
2. SCar - Unfortunately, DJ had his worst performance and instead of relying on the run game...well, we all saw what happened. The defense had some blown coverages but gave the offense a chance to win in the end before AW0 fumbled.
3. Tenn - defense held it together til UT busted it wide open in the 2nd half.
Unfortunately the O struggled in the RedZone and CK2 had some freshman moments...not to mention 3 missed FGs (oof).
Sure, it wasn't all roses for Clemson's Defense but I think Wes is going to work out... hopefully the gut is right but we'll see.

as he coaches more games. His mental acuity for the game is off the charts good. He is having to come into his own as a field coach now and he is grasping that very fast. When he said “freaking” four times in an interview when he was saying they need to be more “freaking violent”, you know the actual word he used with the players instead of freaking. He has an intensity just like coach V. He is just trying to keep that baby face persona. But make no mistake, he gets fired up. He is a red head. Red heads run HOT! And he is smart! Watch him take off.

The thing that made our defense work under BV were all of the blitz packages and multiple schemes and shifts he would throw at the offense and at opposing OCs. By dumbing it down we lost a lot of that punch and we need to get that back. We became very predictable.
I really wish Wes would move back up into the coach's box so he can see the field better and hopefully make better and faster decisions.
We certainly have the talent but we need to maximize their productivity by setting them up to succeed.

as an on field coach. He got better and better with in game adjustments as the year went on. He is a fast learner and knows what to do. He just needed to acclimate to being in the thick of the action and talking directly to the players. He is going to be legendary once it is all said and done. Watch.

Always a positive to have an entire offense fully installed a few months into a new system, instead of 20% of one through 2 years!

The WR injuries still concern me. He said they will take the tape from the Spring and use it to determine what we are good at and focus on that. If the receivers who will be starting in the fall are out for the spring, how will we know what they will be good at? On the other hand, we should have a very good idea what Cade and the RBs are good at.
Just excited to see a fast paced, wide open offense again.

As long as we have WRs who are willing to jump or dive while giving their best effort to catch a ball - and as long as we require WRs to block LBs, we will have injuries at the position.
I know because I've lived my life with the results of a badly separated shoulder for which I refused surgery to repair it.
TEs, RBs and DBs are also suceptible to the same sort of injuries..... shoulders, knees, ankles, ribs, etc.
For linemen (except TEs), it's mostly knees.
Injuries are part of the game.... I wish it wasn't so, but it is.

That is where the focus will be until the other receivers come back from injury and show they can actually run routes on time and catch contested balls.
That said, I do believe those receivers (Stellata & Collins and Taylor) will prove to be very, very reliable and good. A good QB and a good O scheme makes a world of difference. This will be a fun year if the O line is worth a half a flip!

Vietnam is this whole other country, Jenny.
Forrest, don't fall for this coach speak.
There's no way he has most of the offense fully installed and there's no way the offensive players will grasp it that fully by then. That will still be happening next fall and into the season. This is the first rodeo for the Gump family here, but some of us have seen some real football for a long time.

He meant they have installed and run the plays a few times

So now the players need to study it and watch film of it and practice it. It is ~30 plays, so learning/memorizing it shouldn’t take more than a week or two. Executing it is where fall camp come into play. I’m sure they will be sick of running it by the end of fall camp too. 😂 But that is the point. You want them knowing exactly what to do in their sleep. Then it is a matter of them executing it to perfection.
Think back to that last drive DW had to win the natty in 2016. He and the O were on the same page almost the entire drive. Everyone knew what to do when. And the opposing D knew what was coming but were powerless to stop it. THAT is what is coming. Finally!

Offensive Line

My biggest concern for our '23 offense is the offensive line. If we don't greatly improve on run blocking, our offense will not perform up to expectations.

Not run blocking. We seemed to be pretty good at run blocking. But for some reason the OC abandoned the run when it was working. ### 🤷♂️
