Great to have this kid, but his dad is kyle young was an awesome center from 1997-2001 who is on the clemson board of trustees. Kyle's brother Will, also played OL at Clemson.
Kyle and Will Young were awesome lineman at Clemson. If this kid has their work ethic on the field, he will go a good one.
We do need solid 3 star development guys to hopefully give us some solid depth. Let Batson work with him in Power Hour and get a couple years on the scout team going against DLU all day every day and he will be just fine.

Looking at his blocking video, he not only blocks them but he puts them on the ground! And then makes sure they don't get up. He has had some good HS coaching.

Sage Ennis - former walk on. Darn fine player.
Paul Howard - former walk on. Darn fine player; possibly starting Center for 2024 season.
Mason Trotter - former walk- on; started at guard on 2019 or 2020 CFP team.
Renfrow - Everyone knows about this one.
Friends and family (Daniel High recruits) - why we recruit from the local HS, beats me.
Deandre Hopkins - I remember this guy went to Daniel HS, but I forget what he did at Clemson
Denzel Johnson - Starting safety on CFP team.
Misun Kelly - get ready to smile a lot.

You do know that many great NFL players have been drafted from non power 5 schools that no one in the biggies wanted. It's not like he played on podunk HS that has never won anything. And App. state has beaten up on some pretty good power 5 programs.

Not overly excited as I think this is the result of missing on 6 of 7 OL offers this cycle. However if this guy is anywhere comparable to his dad, uncle and great grandfather he will work out fine

My questions would be: 1) Why wasn't Clemson recruiting him earlier? 2) Offers seem to be from smaller schools. Why did other bigger schools not offer?

HS players do not all approach full physical maturity at the same rate.
It is common for many players to not have developed enough physically until their Sr year in HS, and sometimes not until late in their Sr year.
The App State type schools make a living recruiting these late bloomers. The portal bears witness about just how many small school players who develop during their first year in college; these guys get ‘discovered’ when they transfer to a P5 school.

If he’s smart like his dad and uncle, then he might just be the ticket for us at Center. Probably should start out at guard if we have good enough play at Center from Paul Howard and Linthucum.

Folks show their ignorance of the Star System quite often. And, this could be a big star system miss. I think if this kid was either from Florida or Texas he's a 4-star.
I also think - people need to find out if he ever camped at a Georgia, Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State or Clemson. If he didn't and only had good video; he's a 3-star.
Some of these kids choose family over going to camps all summer! It hurts them as recruits; but it doesn't mean they can't play the game.
Put some weight on him and have him learn the craft under Luke. I think with his frame he will end up being an outstanding guard.

Remember Paul Tchio? Kenneth Page? Various other recent players who had the size & HS ‘credentials’ to justify being lauded by the recruiting services … guys who were busts?
The old adage that OL recruits are most difficult to project as becoming good is still valid. Smart, tough, hard working kids with the body type that offers the possibility for further development, and also agility + movement agility, is what the coaches seek when conducting their analysis. They watch game film, and use in person trips to watch a live game, to allow them to make evaluations that the recruiting services simply cannot pull off.
Recruiting services rely heavily on how a relatively small group of invited players perform at their camps.

think I saw one guy on that tape that looked to weigh more than a buck ninety, if that. It will be a huge difference in college trying to move TWO Hundred Ninety pound guys off where they want to go.
I hope Coach Luke takes this guy, makes him a personal project, and really does get him made into a useful lineman on the field. He has the potential size, but not much more at this point. Anyway, welcome to Tigertown!

It wasn’t his pancaking of small defensive players that stood out.
His agility was excellent. Speed wasn’t too bad. He positioned himself well to carry out blocks. And his size is good.
Will he grind through the conditioning and stick to the diet that will be part of his ‘lifestyle’ at Clemson? Will he do right in his student activities? I suspect that all traffic lights are bright green in these areas.
