Time for my yearly "congratulations" post...

Currently, Clemson/Tech isn't really much of a rivalry. You guys are simply much better than we are.
I'm hoping that this is CPJ's last year, although I'm not holding my breath on that. Until he's gone, we're either woefully overmatched against the good teams on our schedule, or we'll find a way to lose if it's close.
I'm not pretending that CPJ is our only problem. Our problems with the administration go back decades. But he is "a" problem. And getting new energy around here will be a good first step.
Anyway, congrats. Clemson will likely be in the playoffs again this season. Dabo has it clicking.

I posted last week wondering where you fervent guys had been this week. I should have known it was a harbinger of the game. I dont know if we want Paul to leave given recent results though. At this rate we still need about 20 more years of him to get the series trued up at this rate.

CPJ isn’t able recruit option offense players like years past because nobody still routinely plays it in HS. Wofford and Army/Navy still run it, but Tech is up against it recruiting wise.
Even Wake is completing their new indoor and football admin. complex! Your program will continue a painful slow decline unless you make a change. Ga. Tech has a rich tradition and your interested alumni better speak up to your AD or you will get left behind.
Go Tigers ??!!

Not meaning to add salt to your wounds, but here is an outside assessment of where GT is at currently...
PJ runs an offense that nobody sees. When the opponent only has a week to prepare, GT will win some games it shouldn’t. That has been the case for years. This year there is NO passing threat at all, through the past several years there seems to be less and less. There needs to be SOME threat of passing threat. GT has put some of the best receivers in the NFL. What happened?
I understand the unrest and urge to change coaches. You could find a worse coach, we wandered in the woods for years (decades?) until finding Dabo. PJ needs to re-find a passing threat, he can still make it work at GT.

I believe the GT Admin has not invested in the program. Facilities are not in place and CPJ does not have the operations staff to compete. Combine this with the GT academic requirements and you end up with a 4-8 team

GT’s academic requirements are not the issue.

They don’t have harder requirements than most other schools. Their issue is that they don’t have a lot of majors outside of engineering/science/math. But they do have other majors, so I view this as a very minor issue. It wasn’t hurting them when they won a national title in the early 90s, or ACC titles not very long ago.
Their bigger issue is that they are way behind in the facilities arms race and they run an offense that is less common on the high school level. This offense is less appealing to top recruits, and also harder to run on the college level against top defenses.
If GT has great facilities and a more exciting offense, they would recruit much better talent, and those players would have no problem getting accepted to GT.

The Hill needs to be more committed to football. It's strange to me how Tech strives for excellence in so many areas. But in football, we're content to be middle-of-the-pack.
If we actually tried - and it would take an investment - our football could be extremely competitive to say the least. We're in the middle of Atlanta. It's not like we'd have to travel all over the world to get good players. Our state is jam-packed with top recruits.
But no. Let's run the option, have half-empty stadiums, and be content with fair-to-middlin' seasons.

I like GT, have always enjoyed their fans and our friendly rivalry, and see a lot of commonalities between our schools and fan bases. You guys deserve better from your AD and football team.

I've never understood why our Admin is content with mediocrity in football. One day - hopefully while I'm still on this Earth - I pray that will change.
Good luck with the rest of your schedule. I see no reason Clemson can't go 12-0 in the regular season.

I expect PJ to resign after this season...

... it doesn't appear like he's enjoying it. Well, frankly, it rarely looks like he enjoys much of anything, given that expression. However, I don't see it going past January.
Big question is can GaTech actually land a top-shelf coach? We'll see.

What's the general mood with the fan base on CPJ? Are the fans uneasy, disappointed, or ready to ride him out of town on a rail? With other schools you usually start hearing the drumbeat when a coach has outstayed his welcome. But I don't hear too much from GaTech.

Well, I think you could see all the orange in the stands yesterday and get a sense of the "mood".
A lot of people are tired of CPJ, and want a change. Let's see how the year plays out, and if he's back next year. I think he might be given one more year (my choice would be to make 2018 his last year, but I think he might be given through 2019). But we'll see.

I'm thinking GT has more cumulative graduates than Clemson does. Which does not mean larger fan base it does (or could) mean more people to go to for fundraising. Its all about facilities these days. I'm guessing Tech is far behind in the arms race. You need someone young, energetic as a head coach and you need fans to pony up the money. Tech has a great tradition that should not get lost in today's sports landscape.

Well after you fire PJ you should get rid of those sorry fans we have to endure on our visits to your stadium. I was hoping we would score 100 on them just for the fans. Never have I been around a worse group.

Your fans were the ones in the stands giving my GF and me a hard enough time that we had to relocate. Yea I’ll slam your fans. I know they probably aren’t all like that but there were several next to us that were. So yea 100 points would have been nice.

Lane Kiffin, FAU
Go get'm!! He could put a heavy wrinkle into uGAY's recruiting! All he needs is his quarterback and a couple star wide receiver's and he'll get you going!

I’ve never had an issue with GT fans. You must have been around a few idiots. Every fan base has them. Maryland and NC State are loaded with those types.

Funny how things change. I'm an old timer, and remember vividly the days when Clemson was essentially a Southern Conference team to Tech, getting paid to come to Atlanta every year to absorb a whuppin. I was there in 69 when we beat actually Tech and the Clemson crowd chanted "We broke the jinx!" The rest of the season went down the toilet and after losing bad to the poultry Howard resigned. Did not happen again until 74 when I was a senior, Tech relented and gave us a home game. Then there was 77, the breakthrough year.
I too enjoy beating the bees, but I do not think it is entirely good for Clemson for Tech to be as bad as they appear to be this season. We need them capable of springing an upset on the mutts from time to time to counter their arrogance. And not that I love Paul, I really think he is the source of a bunch of whisper snark against Dabo, but he has one of the great quotes after beating Mississippi State soundly in the Obowl. "We don't have to hear about the SEC until next year."

Classy. CPJ needs to go. GT deserves better
Sep 23, 2018, 11:31 AM

IF CPJ would change his coaching style, hire an offensive coordinator from the 21st century, then he could stay.
But, considering he is not changing and you can't recruit top level talent in that offense, it seems an easy decision for GT faithful.
You all have 4 National Championships. You deserve better than that team we played yesterday.

Agreed, but GT needs to put $ into facilities as well.

A more modern offensive philosophy would help, but until GT prioritizes facilities to put them into the respectable range, they won't get 4 star talent.

A note about the fans...I live in ATL and have been to many of the games with Clemson. I think the GT fans are among the most respectable in the ACC. I was in the center of the Alum section yesterday, and they were very friendly. They weren’t happy I was there, but they made the best of it.
It’s sad how bad Gt has become under PJ. I like beating them, but we need more strength in our conference.

Hate to say it but GT needs to take a chance and go after Lane Kiffin. Brash, arrogant but likely to keep a lot of Ga pass and catch talent at home. If GT just gets 1/2 the talent leaving the state for CU at home they are immediately competitive. But their administration has to take a chance.
