Can we win? Sure. But this will take our A game.
I am worried because we are super inconsistent. Even against the likes of Charleston Southern and FAU, our offense seems to sputter for drives at a time.
FSU has a better roster overall. I am not going to blame the portal, it's recruiting and development. Adding two stud WRs from the portal is not the reason we lose to FSU.
We lose if Cade continues to make mistakes, the OL can't get us 1 yard in two plays when we need it, or we can't make a FG or extra point.
Also, we need our interior DL to start making a push. Parker and Woods need to make a statement tomorrow and put Travis and his big mouth on his back.
If we don't it will be a long afternoon.
Go Tigers!

Tied for 106th in Team Sacks at 1.33 per game.

NEVER would have expected that with this D-Line after the three opponents we have had. I don't know what the issue is but that just seems crazy to me. D-Line definitely needs to show up!

I feel like (could be wrong) but we run a lot of 3 man fronts which I don’t get unless you just really are worried that much about coverages… seems like that def is a bend but not break inside the 20 and avoid the big play… we need to force a few turnovers to win tomorrow

If the defense can keep their QB from running for first downs I like Clemson's chances. No doubt CK has to have a great game.

This has been the least predictable game for me. I honestly have no clue how it is going to unfold. Both teams have shown different sides of themselves through the first 3 games. All I know is that it should be a really good game and may even come down to who has the ball last.
I think the team who makes the fewest mistakes probably comes out on top.

I appreciate your posts PBT. Yeah, some will say it's a negative post, but I enjoy the discussions. Not that anything we post have any impact on the outcome.
I'm excited to see if we have indeed made progress. Imo, the last 2 games have been meaningful only because of the emergence of Tyler brown. How that translate into big boy fb tbd. i. e. Can he get separation, or will fsu knock him off his routes.
It's past time to see Randall and ngata to make an impact. But you're spot on, it all comes down to the trenches. Time to see our oline step up as predicted in the off season.

Better count Randall out - his presence on the field

takes a spot of a WR that can actually have a positive impact.
I know I have been pretty harsh on Randall. Until I actually see him catch a ball that I couldn’t catch myself, I’d rather see Brown on the field.

It just is what it is.
I am hoping we sack Jordan Travis and knock him around all day. I don't like the smack talk when he hasn't done #### against us...yet.

Is our D line tasked with pushing the OL on each play?
2
Sep 22, 2023, 10:00 AM
|
|
Are they charged with shooting gaps, or are they tasked with occupying the OL for LBs to make plays? Are they being asked to engage the OL on the outside/inside shoulder, maintain space, keep an outside/inside arm free, or arm free for the gap that is their responsibility, read the play then flow to the ball with each having a specific roll?
I don't know the answer to this because I don't know the defense that is being called. I do know that if a DL player attacks the line, getting "push" in an interior gap, when his job is to force a double team by two OL to the outside, in order to free a specific defensive player to attack the play because the play has been scouted and the DC knows where it is going, that DL player is going to be in a ton of trouble on Sunday.
Push is great most of the time, and maybe it's been an issue, but how do we know? This is a serious question, not a jokey post.

We are currently 18th in TFLs at 8 per game vs FSU at 49th at 6/game. They are sacking the qb more at 2.67/game vs our 1.33. It is possible the offenses we've each faced are different, so I'll take the total over the sack number. The Duke game by example had Riley Leonard throwing the ball very quickly and we missed a HUUUGE sack (in Carter's hands) that led to a TD run further highlighting the strangeness of that game. We get penetration and pressure, and yes I believe, some of the statistics are based on scheme as you are questioning.

And we've played Charleston Southern and Florida Atlantic.
FSU played LSU and BC. Not nearly comparable.

Ranked 109th in the country in sacks....

....39th against the run and we've had 4 in 3 games against really bad competition.
But that's ok with mobile Jordan on the loose?
I remember a time were we led the country (or close to it) in TFL and sacks. We've screamed about DE recruiting/development/roster management and you laughed us off.

Not sure where this talent argument
Sep 22, 2023, 10:21 AM
|
|
Comes from, and maybe I’m misunderstanding this… but Clemson is 5th in the composite ranking regarding talent, FSU is 20th. And yes, this includes portal players.
I refuse to believe for the past three years we have whiffed on our recruits. Fundamentally, it’s coaching. All around coaching—decisions regarding players, decisions regarding plays, and decisions regarding development.
