this season vs last season (some #'s that surprised me)...

if you thought this was a topsy turvy year for Tiger basketball, wait till you see this.
i looked at the schedule and RPI #'s for last year and this year and have compared them below.
2013-2014 Team 19-11
Current RPI Ranking 100...SOS Ranking 42
vs. RPI Top 50- 0-7
vs. RPI 51-100- 3-2
vs. RPI 100+ - 16-2
Best 3 Wins- NC State(52), FSU(54), Maryland(83)
Worst 3 L's- Wake Forest(115), Notre Dame(132), Auburn(186)
2014-2015 Team 10-8 (2-4)
Final RPI Ranking 72...SOS Ranking 84
vs. RPI Top 50- 2-3
vs. RPI 51-100- 3-1
vs RPI 100+ - 5-4
Best 3 Wins- Arkansas(31), LSU(47), Syracuse(56)
Worst 3 L's- The #####(123), FSU(132), Winthrop(284)
so, last years team pretty much dominated lesser competition with 16-2 record against RPI 100 or lower teams. This years team is almost .500 against RPI 100 or lower teams.
BUT, this years team as already racked up 5 'quality' or top 100 wins in only 18 games where last years team only beat 3 (and 0 against top 50) top 100 teams all year long.
Our best 3 wins look much better than last years best 3 wins and we still have 5 games to go against current top 50 teams and 8 games against top 100 teams. If we can just find a way to split those 8 games (4-4) that would give us 9 quality wins on the season. Thats 6 more than last year. I really believe we can split those games. The big question, and what seems to be the achilles heel for this yeam this year, is can we win the 4 remaining games against the teams that are currently outside the top 100. We SHOULD win those games. Thats 4 more wins.
So, if what I said comes to fruition (i know thats a big IF) that would put us at 8-4 to close out the year. Giving us a 18-12 record, 10-8 in league, and 9 quality wins. I personally believe that is a tournament resume.
I am definitely not saying thats what i think will happen but it is fun to look at the #'s and the remaing 2/3's of the ACC schedule.
I, for one, choose to believe!

That probably NIT unless can put another win or two more. That wouldnt be too bad though and I would take it. The thing that gets me is this team is so up and down it is hard to get your hopes up. They could win tomorrow and upset NC State there next week and then lose at home to BC.

We are not an NIT team right now and likely wont be at the end of the year. The NIT is much harder to get into recently than it was 5/6 years ago. It would probably take 18/19 wins to get in given how bad our losses are. That means we need to win 8/9 out of our last 12 games. Games that include #8 ND twice, @Duke, @NCSt (along with them at home), and @Miami. Yes we get GT twice and VT once, but I've seen nothing from this team to make me believe we can beat Duke, ND, NCST, or Miami. I honestly expect no better than .500, and that doesn't make the NIT anymore.
