Over the last 3 seasons, our offense has been awful. Take a look at how we rank...
Total Offense Rankings: 2021 - #100 offense (Tony Elliott / Brent Venables) 2022 - #47 offense (Brandon Streeter / Wes Goodwin) 2023 - #51 offense (Garrett Riley / Wes Goodwin)
That's with 3 different Offensive Coordinators, including *2* Broyles Award recipients leading the offense. That's with *2* 5-star QBs.
Just for comparison, here's our defense...
Total Defense Rankings: 2021 - #8 defense (Tony Elliott / Brent Venables) 2022 - #27 defense (Brandon Streeter / Wes Goodwin) 2023 - #6 defense (Garrett Riley / Wes Goodwin)
How long can we keep blaming offensive coordinators (including ones that have been designated the top coordinators in the nation)?

This is the answer. Last night we were down quite a few recievers not to mention the flu ran through our team. I don’t think we have elite recievers but one thing is true for 3 years our receivers have been constantly injured. I think last night would’ve been different had we had collins, Williams, and cole at 100%. You look at our playoff years we truly got lucky when it came to injuries. We barely had any.

No speed. No explosion. No tackle breakers in the backfield or on the outside. Make a move, break a tackle and go 70 yards?? We don't have that and have not since ETN left.

Changes are coming.... Dabo is going to have to make some very hard decisions this offseason. I imagine he will wait until after the bowl game to give some of his former players one last chance to show what they can do.
I am not being critical of Dabo. I get it. I get his culture and what he is trying to build in the football complex. I get that it makes sense filling the coaching staff with guys who played for him at Clemson, that were grad assistants, that are position coaches, and that will eventually be coordinators.
Culture is the most important thing to Dabo. BUT.... I think it is obviously apparent that his experiment has some flaws. I am confident he will make adjustments.
I have no problem with hiring friends and family, but I think they need to go out in the world and gain experience and different ideas from other offensive and defensive minds to come back home after they have proven themselves.
Dabo does change with the times.... he started having official visits in the summer. He has yet to really utilize the portal, but I do think they are just as selective with the portal as he is with extending offers to HS recruits. And, like he says, its a two-way street. We have to like them, and they have to like us.
We shall see, but whatever happens, I will always cheer for the team that takes the field. As long as Dabo is in charge, I genuinely believe that we might not always like the record at the end of the year, but I know I will always be proud of the young men that wear the paw.
Best is the Standard with Dabo.... and being the best, like Dabo says, is not about the scoreboard. The scoreboard is a reflection of everything else Dabo instills in the culture of the program. "Serve a player's heart and not their talent, and football will take care of itself".

Its the Jimmies and the Joes and their NIL doughs. NIL money skews toward offensive playmakers so they are harder to land if you ain't Texas or Ohio State.

And the best part about it is… We didn’t give the guys that moved the offense up 53 spots in one year, a second year to see what he could do. Brilliant! But I bet we’re going to give the guy that move the program down four spots a second year.

I think Jeff Scott will be on the staff one day after the bowl game.... in what capacity is yet to be determined. His ability to recruit and develop WR is proven. He is a friends and family hire I am 100% a supporter of. I think he will be back on staff and eventually take the HC from Dabo when he retires.
I don't think Riley is going anywhere and will be our OC for at least one more year before he takes a HC job if he doesn't get one this offseason.

Seems about the same time our wide receiving corps took a nose dive in production... Coincidence??
Seriously - who has Grisham recruited and coached to an NFL game roster level talent since the end of the 2019 season??
The lack of sustained production at the WR position compared to our previous "norm" has undoubtedly negatively affected our offense.

I believe it is the Oline. Watching a ton of games today QBs had a ton of time to work. Cade has about .75 seconds before someone is on his tail

Ding, ding. Ding, we have a winner. While it’s obvious our wide receivers are lacking and are offensive playcalling is lacking, the number one deficiency on the offense is the offensive line. Watch some of the Oregon State games, they have a great offensive line. DJ just sits back there and seems to have all the time in the world compared to Cade.

I think Clemson fans tend to overlook that almost all of the teams in the current PAC-12 have not heard of playing defense. (Look at the CFP games with Oregon and Washington.) A lack of PAC-12 defenses makes the WSU OL look better than they are. And there is more time for DJU to scan the field.
What's missing with the Clemson offense? Jeff Scott was the co-OC until he took the head coaching job at South Florida. (Many people don't know his father was the OC for Bowden in the best years of FSU, and he and Jeff worked on Clemson's OC plans together. Jeff Scott has forgotten more about OC than most OCs will ever know.) After Jeff Scott left our offense and recruiting (he had been the recruiting coordinator) dropped like a rock in an avalanche. And he was a great WR coach, too. We need him back as WR coach, co-OC, and recruiting coordinator. That is all. Asking for a friend, too.

Look at drops and catch % on contested plays. Look at QB throwing under pressure Look at INTS on tipped passes
We have had TERRIBLE RECEIVER play the last several seasons. Look at last night, how many drops did we have? 1 tough catch.
Until that improves, we will have to rely on our defense to keep us close.

Just for the sake of perspective, all but one team in the NFL have 3 or more losses. How many Power 5 programs have 4 losses?. Why do we have to cry and complain about what was instead of anticipating what is to come. The past games are finished, no amount of moaning or whining is going to change that. Try being realistic and understand that not a single person here has the power nor the opportunity to have their opinions considered when the team makes decisions. Just enjoy when we win and move on

I believe that Coach Riley will put together a better offense next year, but a couple of things have to happen:
1. Riley has to be allowed to bring in any position coaches that he feels are necessary. If he knows of better coaches for his system, they should replace existing coaches.
2. Dabo has to trust Riley to call the plays without ANY interference or second guessing. You can't hold the guy accountable for the offensive production if he has a weight tied around his neck. Dabo hired him, now let him off the leash.
3. The WRs have to get better as a group. I think that they will. Between our young guys - and the new guys coming in, I think we will be able to spread defenses out more.
4. Riley has to be allowed to oversee an open competition at QB. Whoever can more consistently make the right reads and throws needs to take over the offense. If it is Cade, fine. If it is someone else, fine. If we have to recruit someone else to effectively run this system, then let's go get him.
I truly believe that the offense will improve next year, but we might just have to face the possibility, that our offensive scheme is just not good enough to be elite unless we have generational talent at the skill positions - TL, DW, ETN, Mike Williams, Nuk Hopkins, etc.
Let's face it - we are just not as talented on offense as we have been in the past. The defense is playing elite football but the offense is not. Is it talent assessment ? Is it coaching ? Is it the scheme ? Or is it just talent ?
I don't know what the answer is but Dabo and the rest need to figure it out this off-season. It will only get harder to fix the longer we are mediocre.

It's almost as if you have no clue what's really going on. Where have you been, under a rock???
Everyone knows that we've got position coaches that will be let go. Everyone knows we've missed on WR's. Everyone knows the OL and WR's haven't progressed.
Your analysis is either really outdated or really tone deaf.

Look at how young the staff is on the offensive side of the ball vs the defense.
Is Richardson the only guy coaching offense over 40? Spiller, Grisham, Austin all under 40 with less than 10 years coaching under their belts.
