Everyone take a deep breath. We have surely dug ourselves a rankings hole that it will take us a while to dig out of - but all we have to do is get a little better each week (which we were going to have to do anyway) and we will get back to where we belong.
There were no glaring weakness or deficiencies exposed last night (except holding onto the football). The new offense looked pretty good - Shipley & Mafah ran the ball well. CK threw the ball well - completing a high % of his passes and for a reasonable yards per catch average.
The defense play well also (not dominant, but well) Duke's QB is for real and he elevated their game offensively.
We are a top twenty team right now - and we can claw our way back into the top ten - and after this year that will put us into the CFP. But for right now, all we can do is start climbing the hill that is in front of us.

It’s sad how many people are totally fine returning to mediocrity. I’ve lived through it long enough to know it shouldn’t be an option.
If we aren’t gonna do what it takes to compete at this level then we should drop down to d2. We are headed right towards becoming Nebraska.

Being in the Top 20 is NOT mediocrity. I think, after watching the game, that we will stay in the top 20 and have a good chance to work our way into the top 10 before the year is over.
We are not going to have generational QBs every year.

No glaring weaknesses? What did you drink or smoke last night. Recievers are trash. Williams is the only one with fight. They would run the routes and not even work to get open. Klubnick still looks a jittery high school QB. Defense cannot cover the backs out of the backfield. Tackling is #### poor. Looked like a Tommy Bowden product last. Only positive is that by losing, Dabo cannot paint ir as everything is fine. He knows he is in trouble. We are playing chess while others play checkers! 8-4 is coming. 9-3 if we get lucky. 7-5 if nothing improves.

Cade completed 63% of his passes to 9 different receivers. The offense was well balanced - 29 first downs - 145 rushing and 14 passing - 422 total yards. This are not disastrous numbers.
The defense will get the RB coverage fixed.
If y'all expect Nuke & T & Big Mike to come back, or for the Power Rangers to return - you are setting yourself up for disappointment.
This is a good ballclub that can have a great season - top 10. If you are looking for more, you haven't been paying attention to college football.

1-3 in our last 4 games.
We aren't about to pull off 12 straight wins to make the playoffs.
This team will struggle to finish 8-4. That reality needs to sit in for everyone.

The signs were there, but Dabo and evidently most of our fans didn't or couldn't see this coming.
It's sad. It didn't have to be this way.

I am saving ALL of these Chicken Little responses for a month from now when we continue to play like the Top 20 team that we are.
If you guys think we are going to dominate everyone like we did when we had DW & Tl & BV, when y'all will be chicken sqwawkin' all year long.
We've got a really good team (dynamic, competitive, fun-to-watch) that has a chance to have a great season - that will put them into the Top 10. We are not going to the CFP this year, but if we finish Top 10 this year, that will set us up to go next year.
If that is not satisfying for you - will then you will have the kind of miserable season that you deserve.

Dynamic, competitive, and fun to watch, really? At what point last night was Clemson dynamic? Looked like more of the same vanilla offense that we have been running for years. Competitive? I didn't see the cameras ever show anyone on the sideline trying to light a fire under this team. Fun to watch? There is nothing fun about watching us run the ball one play and the next play is a screen. Every single team in the country knows how much Clemson loves the screen and it shows. Congrats to the team, they had over 400 yds of total offense. When they needed less than 10 yds on 3 drives they couldn't do it. They couldn't hold onto the ball. If I wanted to watch a qb run around like a fawn, I would just look right out of my living room windows. There is nothing exciting or dynamic about this team. Anyone believing Clemson is going to be competitive with FSU right now is drinking too much of the Orange Kool-Aid. If I'm wrong about that, I will happily come back here and admit it.

It’s getting further away as we continue this descent. Used to be only clouds out the bus window. Now trees. And they’re getting taller.
True fans can accept reality and will still show up if we end up having to fight for an occasional shot at a conference title. But a return to elite status is not on the horizon.

I saw a Tiger offense working through some things, split back set was nice, showed some glimpses. Too many wr drops, like wow, that was bad. Too many consecutive handoffs to Ship to start the game, until he just looked gassed.
Defense still is too stagnant imo, one on one in space our guys looked like statues. Our talent is there, but man one can only wonder what BV would do with this group.
The main thing I saw was a really impressive Duke team, fundamentally sound, flew to the ball like their hair was on fire. The QB will be a first rounder. Their coaching staff made adjustments, and they made key tackles and plays in the red zone (I know we helped them). I’m going out on a limb and saying top 15 or top 10 team that can likely compete with anyone.
Combo of us working through some things, and lack of fundamental execution, combined with Duke looking like they just wanted it more and better prepared.
All these things made Wallace Wade a house of horrors for our Tigers Monday night.

The delusion involved here is that some people thought we could get in the CFP this year.
I, otoh, understood that we were a top 20 team that might work its way into the Top 10 by season's end. I did not buy the hype at face value. I waited for some evidence. I got it Monday night and it was not far from what I expected.
The offense and the defense have some kinks to work out, but neither one looked horrible. We lost two fumbles inside the five - and that change the entire complexion of the game..
We are not good enough yet to overcome that.
