The life cycle (last 2 years) of being a being brownell hater

The basketball season ends......

1. Be extremely dramatic about outgoing transfers: middlebrookes was going to be great next year! Honor and dawes were so good!!! It's brownell's fault if anyone transfers!

2. Minimize the impact of incoming transfers: brevin galloway sucks! girard can't play man to man D. He is small and couldn't guard a light post!! We signed somebody from the mountain west conference???

3. Doom and gloom season predictions: we are going to suck this year! We did nothing to add to our rebounding and size! All we do is chuck up 3's and our team is not as good at shooting 3's as last year. The ACC will be much better and our non-conference is way better! Talent doesnt matter, brownell is going to brownell!

Season starts and we are playing well.

4. Downplay our SOS: boise state sucks! The ACC is weaker than ever before!

5. This is where we are now.... overdramatic and big- time expectations: oh wow our team actually looks good this year. It's final 4 or bust! ACC championship or bust! A sweet 16 appearance would be a disappointment and brownell should be fired if we only make the sweet 16.

I’m a realist. Pleasantly surprised if we make the NCAA’s and ecstatic if we make it past the first round.

Still trying to digest the ending to last season. Give me time I will get there.

Not getting my hopes up too high, then less disappointment if they don't reach my expectations. The team is playing very well right now and I'm just focusing on the present. Not even thinking about what the team will be or look like come March.

I believe this is a tourney team and has picked up a lot of good resume building wins, but the committee will select who they select. Only way to guarantee a spot is to win the ACC Tourney and that's the one thing Clemson has never done. Will this year be different? We'll find out, but for the time being I'm just enjoying being 9-0.

Not hard to understand. A talented, lower classification team vs a team who was disappointed they were snubbed. It’s very common in sports

You have to be literally delusional to think the last 13 years have been anything more than mediocre.

You can cite 3rd all you want, but no, thus isn’t your daddy’s acc anymore. Not even close. You can’t cite “history” without that irrefutable fact.

Until we do more than mediocre, the jury is out.

Great start by the Tigers. Let’s see how things go once for the season .

Guess you missed the 23 wins and a 3rd place regular season finish. Both of which represent top 10 in our basketball history. In other words, why would we need to rebound from one of our best ever seasons?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Morehead St made ALL of that completely irrelevant.

In fact it justified the NCAAs decision.

These are the facts in whole. Let’s not be delusional.

Maybe this year will be different. It better be because this roster is only together for this year. Big step back in overall talent next year.

I refuse to count any chickens before they hatch. That doesn’t mean I’m not hopeful or that I somehow dislike Brad. But let’s me real here, he’s been making a top 40 salary and he’s literally led us to two top 40 finishes in 13 years. That’s not acceptable in any realistic analysis.

Let’s go Tigers! This is the year.

If I didn't know better, I'd say you are already sounding like someone who is preparing for the historical slide, just in case. Why don't you just enjoy the great start and let the season unfold, rather than trying to create controversy where it doesn't exist. No need to take that page from the JK playbook.

Let's just pull for an 8-0 start tonight and a good spanking of those dirtpeckers. There is still room for those who want to pull for this team but still think maybe Brad has taken it as far as he can, and it doesn't have to involve any hate. These are just opinions, no better or worse than your own.

Go Tigers!

In his defense, the olemike novels seem to be painting the rest of us as Brownell haters, even though that is not the case. Most of us really do support the team but just think after so many years we should have been able to take the next step and are thinking maybe it is going to take someone else to do that. Like I said, just opinions, and not Brownell manifestos from most of us.

Senile Old mike hated brownell

Viztiz said he would still want brownell fired even if we won the natty, and then tried to backtrack whxih we all knew was bs. He never says anything positive about the team, and bashes brownell every chance he gets.

Nc tigs gets on twitter and bashes players and recruits on their own posts

Ohio tiger constantly bashes brownell and said just today that it's taken brownell 14 tears to get serious about his job as if brownell has been collecting a paycheck and done nothing these lst 13 years. A lie and insult to his character

76er said today that brownell only tries when it's cotract time which is an insult to brownell's character

I could go on and on.

Nearly every thread on this board get hijacked and it ends up being arguments about brownell.

This post is spot on. The people that b!tched and moaned about how bad dawes and honor were, were the same people that complained when they transferred and blamed on brownell. These were the same people that bashed the galloway signing and downplayed the Girard signing. Just because you are oblivious to it doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

And if Brad is really all that upset himself, he can come up with his own 1.5er% line. He isn't relying on you to do it for him.

I have met Brownell. Bowden and Swinney in person several times. All are great guys as far as I know. I just like my team to win.

Honestly most threads that get hijacked are because of all the Keller scocks or wannabes. Every post I said I hope we win and it is the ignorant arrogance of posters like you that still triumph Brad as the savior of the program.

80% of my posts about Brownell are reactive to absolute nonsense posted by JK and you in efforts to aggrandize him. Except for a few instances when particularly provoked, I don’t just show up and talk #### about Brownell. And the only time I say anything remotely critical of players is when debating specific assertions. I have no interest in bad mouthing any Clemson player. Brownell is the one that should be responsible for their performance and you, on the other hand, are happy to cast aspersions towards players when you feel it makes Brownell’s performance as coach look better.

viztiz® do you disagree with what I said or asked ? The post was not intended to be a flame post. I wanted serious and honest discussion about how the ACC has fallen to 4th or 5th overall in basketball from the top where it was.

I think the team looks good and if injuries and things work out right we should be in the rare position. If anything that is a compliment considering our history as a basketball program.

Basketball was my first love. Growing up in ‘80s I wouldn’t miss watching games on Raycom or whatever channel the ACC was on. I scheduled vacation days so I could see the opening rounds of March Madness. Moving to NC in my middle teens, I endured ridicule and jests from the Carolina, Duke, Willie’s and Wake fans. I remember the times we upset them and I got to give it back to my friends.

The post you mentioned was not about Brownell, until they made it about Brownell. I support our team and Brownell until he is gone.

Last question for all the Brownell lovers and fans, if he is as great a coach as he is why does nobody hire him away? You say he doesn’t have resources or the university backing him, why is he still here? Why isn’t he mentioned when there are openings as a candidate? Thanks

Negatory, broseph. I have said this whole time that this is a great team, and they have showed that the last 7 games. I have said this whole time if we don't make the tourney this year the Brad needs to go. I continue to stand by that.

In my prediction prior to the season, i had us losing to bama and finishing the non-conference schedule 9-2. I still expect to do that, or better.

It's going to be hard to go 15-5 in conference, but i think this team can do it.

I did say that i would have been good with firing him if we didn't make the tourney last year.

I also said that I would be good with keeping him if we had a good year despite not making the tournament and if we looked to have a good team coming back. I didnt foresee setting the clemson record for ACC wins and not making the tournament. I also knew the pieces we had coming back could make for a great team. Looks like i was right on that.

Those statements are both true. I wouldn't have been pissed if we fired him last year. I was also fine with him being retained.

My sincerest apologies - I didnt realize “make some noise” meant not make the tourney, not make the ACC Final, not win the ACC, and lose the first game of the NIT. I guess it actually meant win a bunch of games in conference because of unbalanced scheduling allowing you to finish 3rd but ranked 6th and 7th by RPI and NET.

Or setting a record for most acc wins in the history of clemson basketball in an underrated conference.

The most important aspect was not dropping off this year and getting even better which i predicted would happen. This would not have happened if brownell wasn't retained.

Remember when you were trying to argue that we would drop of this year because of history and such, instead of looking at actual reality?

It’s not that those of us frustrated with Brownell suddenly think he should have higher benchmarks than just making the NCAA tourney. THATS WHAT WE’VE ALWAYS THOUGHT! A 14th year head coach’s best season cannot be a 1 done trip to the NCAA and no conference hardware. If you get to coach longer than anyone else do something no one else has done. Win the ACC. Make a Final Four. Something.

The want us to be pre-happy if this team goes 27–4, finishes in the top 2 of the ACC regular season, but doesn’t make an ACC final or make it out of the first weekend of the NCAA tournament so that Brownell gets that big, fat raise and extension because that - more than results - is what they crave.

But since you and others keep saying that I do, hopefully B-Meist® or Crump® can finally lay this ridiculous accusation to rest.

They are wrong about everything else, why stop at this JK burner account conspiracy?

No more excuses.

Make the NCAAs or GTFO

and no contract extensions until there is a pattern of success.

Making the NCAAs 2 or 3 times in 15 years doesn't cut it.

Based on 14 years of history it is understandable that some are reluctant to jump in just yet. If we finish in the top 20 several years in a row there would likely be some believers.

Class of ‘71. Went through “rat season” and glad I did.

More like oh look we aren’t in the tournament again and again and again oh finally get in. Then back to not getting in again and again and again. I haven’t celebrated nor downplayed any of our players that have signed because I’ve learned not to ever have expectations for a BB team. We’ve started great so let’s see how we finish. Long season.

I still have not found anyone who hates Brad Brownell.

That just seems to be your weird little fantasy.

Typical.

Is it cool if fans want to see some tangible results in March instead of December?

Now maybe you’ll understand the apprehension. You act like losses like this don’t dot Brads entire career. If they didn’t, then he’d be as successful as your acting.

We all love this team this year. Let’s hope we can avoid the headscratching losses and finally see some dividends in year 14.

Go Tigers!

Clemson basketball winning games and taking names. It's been a languishing stretch here for a long while so this season's bright aura is a most welcome development.

Go Tigers!

Is this an ‘everybody aught to love Brownell’ post, or an attack on Brownell critiques or your personal experience as a Brownell hater?
