Texans Hire Lovie Smith

In 9 years at Chicago he went 81-63 (0.563) and was fired. He was 3-3 in the post-season including a trip to the Super Bowl in 2006 and the NFCCG in 2005. He was 13-3 when they played in the Super Bowl. After that, in 6 seasons, he had three winning records, though one was in the NFCCG.
After that, he spent 2 years in Tampa where he was 2-14 and 6-10 before getting fired.
He was hired by Illinois as their HC where he went 17-39 (10-33 in conference) and he was fired mid-season in 2020.
Overall, as a head coach, he's 106-126 (89-87 in the NFL).
By all accounts, he seems like a really good guy, but seems like the Texans GM summed it up well - "I think Lovie's a good coach...." A good coach. Not exactly a rousing or enthusiastic endorsement. "Guys, we have you're next head coach. He's good." I don't know.
I hope the best for him and the team, but with this ownership, who knows.

Couldn't win at Chicago with better talent, can't see him being successful at Houston.

Will be interesting to see if he can build a relationship with DW4 that could potentially get him back on the field. My guess would be no but more because of the damage already done by team owners. I will say Smith probably has as good a chance as anyone - but that chance is still very slim IMO.

Another recycled coach. I do not understand. Guess it’s a good gig if you can get it. Make a few millions, get fired. Go to another city stay 3-4 years make more millions, get fired.

I don't get it! It is like NFL head coaching is a fraternity and when you are a member, you are a member for life. I have seen Eric Bieniemy's and Byron Leftwich's coaching jobs, and don't get why they don't get a chance at Head Coach. GO TIGERS!!!

I'm wondering if Bieniemy or Leftwich passed on this one. Houston isn't the most enticing of programs for your first shot at HC. I think Watson and ownership are done with each other. There was lots or rumbling even before the off field allegations. Smith's success will be determined by the picks they get for Watson, if any, and their drafting going forward. If Smith pulls this off he's a good coach. Houston is in worse shape than Tampa Bay was when he went there.

Pretty sure Flores would have been the choice if he hadn't decided to go full Kaepernick!
