60 Minutes reporter asked Deion what he would tell his kids if some new coach told them to enter the transfer portal:
Paraphrasing here Deion: “I’d tell them you must not be good enough then. If you were they wouldn’t be trying to get rid of you.”
60 Minutes guy: “You’d tell your kids that?”
Deion: “Of course, it’s the truth! We live in a society where everyone is too busy trying to make people feel good instead of telling them the truth. Nobody knows what the truth is anymore”

Dang. Cannot disagree with that statement. Up front and honest, but he still could have handled it with a little more class.

Yeah pretty blunt guy. He was like if all the coaches got fired then some of the kids gotta go. Now he did say if his words were enough to upset some players, then that player prob wouldnt survive in his hard work/discipline program. He said the right players accepted the challenge to stay and prove themselves

I just don't think all the transfers are ready for that hard truth. He's going to be cutthroat about it and that is going to sour a LOT of players. I fully expect him to take advantage of the year to year scholarship flexibility instead of guaranteeing all 4 years. I wonder how that's going to play out when some of his current player lieutenants graduate or move on. It's going to be an interesting experiment.

Would also be interesting to see how he manages APR

I think he’s putting all the focus on athletic competitiveness and turning over kids. But I wonder what happens if he brings in a player that doesn’t end up getting what he thinks he deserves and leaves. And then do that with a significant percent of the roster every year.
I know UCONN ended up in a mess with APR and was penalized.
Although, I’m looking through the overview, I don’t see anything about Graduation being included in the metric. They just have to go to a class. So maybe not that big of a deal.

Based on the University response to the Netflix special not paying them and then just happy to be pushing merchandise sales, I could see them going the UNC route and making special classes that just happen to get registered with only football players.

Sometimes, being direct is painful but necessary.
The unvarnished truth is in short supply in 2023.

Ha, Deion saying things you aren’t supposed to say anymore. That quote would get him court marshaled in the military today. Heck, there’s a specific group of “adults” in the world, and on this board , who would need therapy if you told them that.
I have no problem with Deion, my only issue is the MSM doing what they do , which is go absolutely over kill on a decent story. And with Deion meeting a certain criteria for what their looking for, it’s almost sickening how overblown it has become.

The 60 Minutes reporter actually came off as rude to Deion. He threw in little jabs during the interview and while narrating. But Deion never took the bait. He just smiled his way through the conversation

Wonder what kind of media firestorm Dabo would create by saying something like this?

Dabo couldn’t say that or he better not or every media person would be writing about how racist & right wing he is for being a Christ follower.
It’s like Facebook taking ministers off their platform because they claim they talked about animal cruelty because they mentioned Abraham with his son Isaac or mentioned the Lamb slain for all our sins, Jesus.
They want the AI computer to rewrite the Bible & sermons.

Isnt his team pretty much made up of transfers? Seems like this may be in contradiction to how he assembled his own program.

As a Tiger fan, Deon already had 2 strikes against him in our eyes. He was fun to watch play and I actually liked him on television.
The way he handled CO rubbed me the wrong way, but it is his tail on the line if they lose.

Jack Welch, Larry Bossidy, Jamie Dimon, Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, etc. Many of the top CEOs in the country have cultures where only the strong survive and a kill or be killed mentality. Yes, that is changing in the world of woke but this is how the best companies extracted top performance from the best people.
Deion is old school but Jack Welch would have loved his leadership style. Coming from someone who worked for Jack and lived it firsthand.

That's just Colorado football exceptionalism at it's worst is what it is.
Coachimus Prime's got to know it's just that sort of viral wrong-think that causes winning cultures and we cant have winning cultures. They upset the apparatus. Theyre plain dangerous.
And of course, after centuries of foolishly placing a premium on winning, we all now know losing is really just the product of a system geared to give undue advantage to the winners while shaming the losers who, through no fault of their own, failed to win.
