Anyway Cain redshirts?

He is amazing on tape but with williams, scott, hopper, and peake do we really need him at all? I think hopper (5/4 star) doesnt get enough touches already. And I also have a feeling trevion thompson is a diamond in the rough.

Also this is put up or shut up for Hopper. If he doesn't step it up he's going to be moved to the bench by Cain or Ray Ray. He doesn't get a lot of touches because he drops too many passes

If Cain and Sammy are once in a generation then how is there two of them at Clemson and less 2 years apart?

Mike Williams, Artavis Scott, and Charone Peake ... and yes, Germone Hopper. Plus Trevion Thompson.
And ... Sammy was a WR all through HS and Cain is just now learning the position.
Cain won't red shirt for sure, and he'll see the field a lot, but IMHO, he will not displace those veterans and start from day one.
Now, I'm just talking about WR ... I wouldn't rule out a chance for Cain to be the starting kick-off return man.

It's really just a guess but I would say he doesn't redshirt. I just don't see him sticking around for five years so there's no point in worrying about saving that year. Because he will have a late start on practicing, playbook, etc., they might start him with a small package of plays just to get him on the field and build it up during the course of the year.

Dabo recently stated that the best players would play. Their is a not so subtle message in that statement. You cannot bring five-star talent in and allow it to sit behind four star talent. Five -stars will not commit on those terms. Did Sammy redshirt? Deshaun?

"We don't care much about stars when we are looking at a player. We observe the film and take our own assessment. We could look at a guy rated 4-star or 5-star and say, 'We don't see it'. Then, take a look at a guy with a lower ranking and go 'wow, wonder why no one wants this kid?' It all depends on our evaluation." {paraphrasing} Check out the "Dabo NSD" video on YouTube. Because that is how they operate.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dHEs7KP0Wg
As for your examples: Deshaun Watson played in a similar offense as run by the Clemson offense in high school. The only thing that was different was wording to particular calls. Former OC Chad Morris even discussed that when everyone was admit the "QB Controversy" earlier in the 2014 season. "Cole is our Starter" was what Dabo continually said and he was at the beginning of the season. Watson is more suitable for our offense and Cole, while a pretty good QB, was not.
Sammy Watkins did not begin starting in his capacity until midway of the 2011 season. He was a slot receiver and shared time with fellow freshmen Adam Humphries. If I am not mistaken, Jaron Brown started in the "2" spot on the other side of Nuk Hopkins....

wrong. Sammy was a starter by the 3rd game(Auburn) of the season. Plus there wasn't a single game in 2011(starting with the season opener against Troy) other than the Wake Forest game where Sammy went down with a shoulder injury and the NC State game where he didn't dress where Sammy didn't log more snaps than Brown.

Dabo's also full of ####! If the whole "we will play the best players" thing was true with Dabo, Cole should have not started the Georgia and FSU games.

If our 5* commits RS, then I think our coaches have failed with that recruit in some way. I expect to get 3 years MAX from our 5* recruits, so no need to RS and just get 2 years from them.

I would think a kid with the hands of Nuk and the speed of Sammy will be a redshirt. At any rate, Cain will most likely play all three positions as a form of mismatch or as a decoy for Williams and Scott. And he will probably be part of a rotation. I see them doing the same with Ray Ray. Maybe even put Williams exclusively on the boundary or "9" with Peake on the "2" and Cain and Tay in the slot positions with Gallman in a single back formation on mixed downs. At least, that is how my mind plays it out....

Don't think so. We're thin at WR
Feb 6, 2015, 4:00 PM

Even though we've got a bunch of guys with experience, we really don't have much depth. That's why, even after picking up some really good receivers the last couple of years, we're still going to have to bring in 3 more receivers next year (Powell and Chase, plus somebody else).

No Way!
Feb 6, 2015, 6:15 PM

There is no way that Cain or RR redshirt this upcoming season. They both are way to talented and will see PT to some extent immediately and be a major factor in our offense by midpoint of the season if not sooner.
We are to thin at WR to be red-shirting a dynamic play maker like Cain. Scott is currently our best WR and behind him are a bunch of unknowns. Hopper had a lack luster year and except the UNC game hurt the offense with his drops, which were consistent all year long. Peake has been hurt a lot and it's still unknown if he will ever be 100% healthy enough to make it an entire year. Williams had some big games but he also disappeared in several games when we really needed someone to make a play. Thompson is unknown coming off a RS and will be working his way into the depth chart. Other than that there is no one on the roster that recorded significant snaps last season and we lost Humphries, Kitt, and Priester.
We will need every player we can field if we are to make a run at a NC and Cain will be a major part in getting there.

If you watch the guys film you will see that he will be the best after the catch WR we have ever had. He is way too explosive. I am not sure what Peake will be like, but I am calling Cain starts or gets an amazing amount of snaps. Top 4 wr's imo will be Artavis Scott, Williams, Peake, and Cain. Cain isn't redshirting.
