It’s a nickname. What’s funny is that they’ve used Clemson United for several years but they had to win a NC for most fans to notice.

Yea and the logo is called a shield. They currently have 2 paws in the shield and will soon add a 3rd. Pretty cool tradition started by someone. Guessing Noonan.

It's similar to s what a number of national teams do with the crest (or, mostly, above or along with the crest) and the shirt. Germany? Four stars over the crest in recognition of the four World Cups won. France? Two stars. There are no doubt other national sides that do something similar--I think that I have a Brazil shirt with stars on it. Maybe.

The whole "united" adjective is off. It originally referred to new clubs formed from the merger of two or several older clubs. Then MLS let DC United use it, and we're just marketing at this point. I'm pleased with the Clemson side, but I'd be just as happy if they were mere TIGERS.

Looks like the “United” might refer to continents with NA, Europe, & Africa represented. Also, a senior w/ an undeclared major tells me he is only here to build his resume for the European pro leagues. That happened years ago with small colleges and now has worked its way up to P5. US players coming out of high school stand an ever dwindling chance of earning scholarships. And Clemson was an innovator in this practice dating to the ‘70s.

Not a fan of it. Maybe it’s because it reminds me of Manchester United or DC United and I’m not a fan of those two teams.

I agree so much I threw some tnet coins at ya! United makes it sound like two premiere league teams had a merger. Although NIL makes them professional, they are supposed to be amateurs! I HATE the whooo-hoooo! I guess it’s the old school in me! I love my Tigers, though!
