I haven't seen enough of the freshmen to say if Shipley is more talented than they are. But Will plays with a heart and a desire that I don't see from any of the other players on either side of the ball.

we have some talent in the backfield... if the line can create gaps then the offense will be successful

Sometimes a RB must create a hold to run through to daylight. M has the size to do this but not sure he can.

I think it’s pretty close between Shipley and Mafah
You need a catch, shipley is your man
You need a guy to pick up a blitzer in the backfield, Mafah is your guy
Both kids can tote the rock

Wrong. Shipley is averaging a yard more per carry. He is a better runner, a better receiver and they are about the same when it comes to blocking. Shipley is the best all around football player on the team.

I mean, you're wrong.
He's the best athlete of our running backs. He's kind of a jack of all trades, master of none. He runs with a ton of heart and determination, but isn't particularly powerful. He's okay in the speed department, but not burning any corners. He's probably the best receiving back, though we haven't really utilized him there.
Mafah is our best running back. I don't know who's faster between the two, but it's not a huge gap. But Mafah is so much more powerful. With our terrible O-line, being able to break tackles and wear on defenses is huge. Mafah is also quite good at pass protection. Shipley is a horrible blocker.
I haven't seen enough of Quadzilla to rank him yet, but I'm been extremely impressed with him. He reminds me of Knowshon Moreno for those who remember him.

Wrong. Shipley is averaging a yard more per carry. He's faster, better vision, and more stamina. Mafah is bigger and that's it

LOL. Yeah, because his one big play pulled his average up. Not exactly the most reliable indicator.

Ugh that's how stats work. Shipley had averaged more yards per carry all three years they've been here. He also has 26 rushing TDs and 1 receiving TD while Mafah has 9 and 1. Like the OP said, Ship is better and it's not that close

I’m super impressed by Shirley’s heart, toughness and effort. He plays as hard as anyone on the team. I think he’s a good running back not necessarily a great one. He has some shortcomings.
