Nov 14, 2022, 6:47 PM

would you rather :

1) get throttled in the first round of CFP

2) play bama in Orange bowl and maybe lose anyway

I Would Rather Make The Playoffs Regardless

The aim low strategy of posters here is pathetic

If, If! If a bullfrog had wings it would not bust it's behind every time it jumped. I root to win for Clemson whenever they play. No more Kevin Steele and WV scores.

thanks

I want to be 12-1 and make the CFP - bunch of Nancies in here. Mich is one dimensional rushing can barely pass

1 loss mich is a problem, 1 loss Tenn is a problem

Aim low? So “maybe” winning the Orange Bowl over Alabama

Nov 14, 2022, 7:01 PM [ in reply to I Would Rather Make The Playoffs Regardless ]

Is aiming low, but getting “throttled” in the CFP is aiming high?

Making the CFP is aiming high.
Being scared to play good teams is not just aiming low, but cowardice.
Fans may not understand that, but competitive athletes do.

Understood, but he didn’t ask which you would rather

Nov 14, 2022, 7:10 PM

Play and he said we would 100% lose in the CFP. That is very different from being scared to play good teams.

It's the 2020 FSU solution.

If we are going to get crushed, I would rather it be in the "final four" than a bowl game. It's not like Alabama would be a cakewalk in the Orange Bowl and certainly not a guaranteed win so we might as well get as far as we can.

You would rather get blown out in the first round for a 2nd

Nov 14, 2022, 7:51 PM [ in reply to I Would Rather Make The Playoffs Regardless ]

consecutive trip than win a NY6 bowl over a quality opponent? Why? How does that help us or our brand?

Re: You would rather get blown out in the first round for a 2nd

Nov 14, 2022, 7:54 PM

Even if we got blown out in the playoff the hype that follows will be that Clemson has been in the playoffs for 7 of the last 8 years. Recruits like that I think. After some time passes, they tend to only remember that you were there more than they remember the score.

Seven CFP appearances and two titles helps anyone’s brand a good deal more than being unwilling to play the best teams. How many schools would like to be in our shoes? I think a vast majority.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I’d rather lose a CFP game by 50

Nov 14, 2022, 9:51 PM [ in reply to I Would Rather Make The Playoffs Regardless ]

than beat Bama in the OB. Just sayin’.

Kinda like winning the NIT or go to the NCAA Tourney and lose in round 1. I’d take the latter.

Like always I want the team to go as far as they can, if it ended in a loss so be it.

Not trying to sound mean but really don’t care if it’s embarrassing to the fans. Those players work their tails off to be able to compete, and they wouldn’t sell them self short by trying to avoid a team.

Definitely to make the playoffs. I will always want what's best for our Tigers and to excel and go as far as they possibly can.

Honestly play Bama. I live in Atlanta and don’t really want to get hammered by UGA. I am all in on Tigers but don’t think we match up with them this year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: serious question --- please

Nov 14, 2022, 8:16 PM

I think both would present significant challenges so I'd just as soon match up with one of them in the playoffs rather than a regular bowl game. In playoffs, funny things can happen so why not take our chances and see if we could pull an upset?

2024 purple level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Play BAMA and boat race them at the Orange Bowl!!***

Every year there’s been a team…

Nov 14, 2022, 8:08 PM

that pretty clearly was NOT competitive with the other three. We were that team in 2020. It was good to have the honor of selection to the four, but in hindsight I would have rather played a lesser opponent and won. Getting embarrassed in the semi-final does not bode well for the following season. If you make it back to the natty then it’s ok - you beat someone to get there, so that tempers the loss and leaves you feeling better than getting killed in the semi.

Re: Every year there’s been a team…

Nov 14, 2022, 8:18 PM

Is shying away from competition because you fear you might get pounded really the kind of program you can be proud of? That value is not something that ever crossed my mind from a Dabo-led program but maybe that's just the way I'm wired.

2024 purple level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It’s a hard question

Nov 14, 2022, 10:18 PM

Of course you want to be in line to wi the national championship, and most times no one really knows which team will be the whipping boy. But if I were somehow gifted with prophecy and could see an embarrassing beating coming (not just for the fans but for the team and the program), then yeah… I’d rather go to a New Years Six Bowl, win that, and end the season with positive momentum for recruiting.
