How do we beat FSU

What are the most important matchups?
We’re going to have to run the ball well. Those corners for FSU look like they won’t give up anything. Especially since we don’t have any deadly fast receivers.
Our secondary is going to have to step up. Didn’t do awful against Duke, and showed improvement last week as well. But we need the depth secondary to really show up.
What do you think?

Don’t know about that.
Winning the margin is a factor, but is only a part of what Clemson needs to do.
I think it’s just about executing. As we’ve seen, there have been receivers get open and Klubnik has hit them more than he hasn’t. Haven’t used much downfield passing, but there is likely a reason for that.

Yep. And the same is true for FSU. If they give Travis time, pressure Klubnik, and establish an effective run game, they will win.

Not necessarily true. Even if we get pressure, if your receivers begin to lose our corners when Travis begins to scramble the pocket, we’re in trouble. Even if your run game is held well.
Same vice versa

flip in our favor. We need them to make big mistakes and for us to play a clean game. Maybe find some non-offensive points.
I just don't think we are beating FSU athletically. They have us outgunned in that regard at most positions on the field.

I think if we can keep the FSU offense on the sidelines and our offense can run the ball effectively, without turning the ball over, we have a legit shot. Running game will open up some passing lanes I am hoping.

Balanced offense, long drives, limit the FSU run game. LSU?
1
Sep 11, 2023, 2:25 PM
|
|
Saturday, LSU gave up 233 yards of offense to Grambling on their 1st 3 drives of the game. Grambling was down 14-10 at the end of the 1st QTR and added another 70 yard drive to start the 2nd QTR, but missed a chip shot field goal once they drove it down to the LSU 6 yard line. Grambling finished with 163 yards on 29 carries for 5.6 yards per carry. FSU had 34 carries for 135 yards against LSU.
I expect big improvement for us this week after getting a couple of days of rest, unlike last week.
If we can eliminate the bone headed plays from Cade, we should be much more efficient offensively in two weeks. Ball control offense to wear them down in the heat. I think we do a much better job of limiting FSU's running game(LSU gave a false impression of the FSU run game) and get some good shots on Travis.

Have to play a clean game. Win the turnover battle. Control the FSU running game without committing an extra defender to the box. Make some #### plays on offense.

Im going to sound like a pumper, but honestly the strengths of this team can matchup.
On offense Running the ball is paramount, lots of read options and 2 back sets. This will be a game of patience and will likely be on the defense. They have excellent athletes at corner but they do get over aggressive so some eye candy and motion might bust a coverage or 2 of theirs.
Let the DL play free and have someone spying Hunter. Their OL was getting wrecked by one guy for 2.5 quarters of football vs LSU. I believe their OL is not very good inside, that said Travis can run and containment has been a disaster so far this year. Their wrs are good but id like Colemon to get the best guy on him all game, Wiggins. Wilson is drop prone. Test them early with single high safety looks mixing in some zone blitzes to get Travis to roll into a few of them.

- Big plays early (Gain the momentum and let The Valley do it's thing.) - Play free (This team has been written off. Clemson plays well as the dog. Dabo thrives as the dog.) - Protect the ball. - Protect Cade. - Pressure Travis often. - Run the ball and control the clock (This team is loaded at RB, if the run works, keep pounding.)

1. Control the LOS
(Jared Verse v Tristan Leigh) - if we are able to protect Cade, then we have a shot at a balanced offensive attack
(Clemson DL vs FSU OL) this is FSU’s weakness and we are going to have to exploit it big time if we want to win
2. Clemson LB’s vs Jordan Travis
Carter, Trotter & Woodaz are going to have to play to their potential. I’m really excited about this, because they have the talent to match up to Travis and that is where LSU was lacking a bit
3. Clemson WR vs FSU secondary
LSU had success in the secondary vs FSU. Clemson doesn’t have the talent there. Can we still exploit the FSU backs? I think it may all hinge on this. If we can, it might just turn the season around for that group

1. Pressure and tackle Travis. He broke a lot of sacks the other night 2. Got to protect Cade because we see what he does when someone comes at him, just heaves it into the air. 3. Don’t have to be explosive but have to be efficient throwing and running.

I don’t think that is the case this year.
FSU seems to be really sound fundamentally. They haven’t really struggled with the same issues we have so far. Not saying it can’t begin for them.
Big thing is our players will have to make plays. Not just doing “enough” to come close. Receivers need to make the catches. Cade must pay attention to his own reads running and passing.
And leaders will need to step up mentally for the team. We will be down at some point during the game. Someone or some players will have to find that strength to keep heads up.

It will require winning the turnover battle 2+
We can't run well if they don't have to respect a deep pass ever.
We can't pass well if our WR's are inferior athletes to their DBs and our QB isn't trustworthy with important decisions.
We can't outscore them if we we give up over 6.5 yards per rush like we did vs Duke.
In my mind there is very little chance we win.

1. Redzone scoring. Fumbles, FGs, etc are not going to win the game 2. Cade needs to get his shiz together and find the open receiver 3. Avoid stupid penalties
We dominated the stat lines in our last two losses. Fix the small stuff and this team is a championship contender.

Agree with that. It’s all about the preparation really.
Preparation really is your season. You play 12 games, but practice 4 more times in a game week. This is why things can be fixed, and how things will become more consistent.
Y’all remember how we struggled against Troy and Wofford in 2011? Chad Morris’s first year as OC. Scored okay, but there were mistakes made. I see that as similar to this situation.
I see this as a success waiting to happen. It’s not really about what Dabo thinks or the odds that Riley works out. It’s already shown to have more potential than anything in the last 2 years. Receivers are obviously playing better. And running backs have looked great.
But regardless, there is no less pressure on FSU for this game. They still haven’t beat us in 7 years. They still play in Death Valley. And there is even more desire to win this game for Clemson now. They all are must-win given our aspirations for the season. Just an extra willingness will be given from us.

I've said I think FSU wins this game easily. The more and more I look at the past 2 games, the problems we have are correctable. If the receivers can create separation and Klubnik settles down, we can compete with FSU. This week will tell us a lot. If Clemson plays FAU like they did against DUKE and the 1st half of CSU, Clemson will get steam rolled against FSU. But if they don't, then I can see it actually being a competitive game. The defense has to play as a team and not like a bunch of individuals like they did against Duke. If the defense can play like they know how to, then Clemson will be good. It will come down to who makes the least amount of mistakes.

Didn’t even read anything except for your title.
It would literally mean Cade becomes the 5* we thought he was, the WR play improves drastically, our DLine becomes the NFL caliber Dline we assumed we had this year, Wes Goodwin figures out how to get our elite LBs to stop thinking so much and start playing fast, DBs will be fine if the rest do what I just mentioned.
I actually don’t think the Oline has been horrible. Not great but serviceable for sure.

FSU is just a very confident team. It’ll take almost everything we got.
Reminds me of 2015 Clemson. Not saying they’re that good, but 2015 we came made that jump that only few programs can do. In one year.

FSU is a good team but I don’t think they are world beaters like everyone makes them out to be.. LSU is overrated, as they always are. Our players can hang with them, need coaching and execution to be on point. We let them get back in the game last year, in their house
