Since you qualify as a historian, I'll ask you. I posted this several days ago but got no response.

Clemson football historians:

Saw this print for sale and like it. The caption says it Mark Fellers (QB) but I don’t think he wore #11 based on my brief research. I think it’s either Mike O’Cain or Ken Pengitore.

And I agree it will be strange being out of the ACC if that's what happens.

That looks like Pengitore, Fellars wore #12***

I’m pretty sure it’s not Fellers. I’m leaning towards Pengitore over O’Cain.

Thanks for your input. I love the old helmets with the big paw and single stripe.

#11 Mike O’Cain & #12 Mark Fellers split QB duties in 1974. That’s Mike O’Cain in the photo.

Strange, but long overdue. This conference has screwed us for 50+ years. About time we give it back to them.

I also saw my first Clemson game in 1972, when I matriculated as a freshman

Tiger. But, as far as us being out of the ACC, I suspect there is a LONG road ahead before that happens, if it ever does before the conference completely implodes on its own.

I think the photo is from 1974.
So the QB is Mike O‘Cain with Bob Sharpe Jr as Center.

I think we played SC at home in ‘74. This photo is in Columbia. I think it was ‘72.

I’m wrong it’s either ‘71 or ‘73

Agreed all the even year games are at Clemson

So in 1973
It was Ken Pengitore QB #11
Smiley Sanders RB #23
John Bolubaz #54 Center

The Gamecocks had a LB #34 Bill Cregar and DT #55 Dana Carpenter

And for your help identifying the other players, including the gamecocks. They had an old school helmet too.

That’s right. It had to be an odd year, so it wasn’t Mike unless the pic is from 73 or 75.

You know based on the gamecock helmet it might be 1971.
