Ryan Day - inherited an elite Urban Meyer team

in 2018. Kept the wheels on the bus in 2019. This years OSU team is clearly not as good as 2019. Is the 2020 team the first evidence of erosion?
I’m not claiming it’s going to be an easy win or anything of that nature. But Meyer is a fantastic coach, like him or not. How much of the success over the last two seasons are just echoes of Meyers impact on the program.

That Ryan Day isn't really the coach that Urban Meyer is, and 2020 is the year that it became obvious...

Last season for the playoffs, Meyer joined the staff as an analyst to help OSU prepare for Clemson. Does anyone know if that happened this season? If not, that might be a litmus test.

Urban Meyer lost control over all of his teams and always had to have security around to protect himself. Players would break into his house and steal from him.

Urban Myer is a typical egotistical coach. Of all the big wins Dabo and The Tigers have had,I only recall one coach giving us credit for being the better team and that was Nick Saban. Myer, Kelly, Miles, Stoops all gave us the standard yeah they played better, and then they go into their "we really didn't play well, blah, blah, blah spiel". Giving The Tigers no credit at all, for being the better team. I guess it hurts to get your butt wailed by li'l ol' Clemson.

interesting Question!

We have seen it in sports before where a legendary coach's imprint "wore off"! They still recruit well! Tate Martell - yikes! Had Fields decided to stay at UGA then what? Trey Sermon?
Be honest with you - it likely doesn't matter! Indiana was the 2nd best team in the Big 10 this season. Indiana football was right behind Ohio State! Say that and let it sink in. In short what I am saying is: they will continue to win the Big 10 conference! They have far and away more talent! At one point in the "little old ACC" FSU, Miami, North Carolina and Clemson were all in the top 20 in recruiting"! I know, I know - Michigan does well in recruiting some years! But, it isn't translating is it? Minnesota was perhaps the 2nd best team last season. Wisconsin?

That’s a good point. In a weak Big10 they’ll be able to sleep walk through to 10 win seasons as long as they continue to recruit highly.

Last two years, Ohio State has recruited lad mad

They aren't going anywhere, especially if they have good QB play the next couple of years. Can they close the sale on a championship or will they be like UGA?
I expect Clemson, Alabama and Ohio State to again be in the CFB in '21 and '22. In my mind, these 3 programs are recruiting on a different level from the rest of college football. The real question is who is #4 and will they be worth a dime.

MOCity - look at 2017 Clemson finished 16th in recruiting!
Southern Cal Michigan Florida State
All finished ahead of our Tigers. Miami finished ahead of the Tigers.
To the OP point though - much like Georgia who routinely wins the "best in recruiting class trophy award that isn't". It is about: "what you do with the talent once it arrives"!
That's why Nick keeps winning because kids come in slightly to way better than when they arrive! I believe our Staff does the same thing but with less 4 and 5 star players; though we get our share.
Since 1980 Georgia has "probably beaten Clemson in recruiting higher rated players" more often than not! But, what do they have to show for it in that time frame? Miami routinely recruits well! Southern Cal hasn't been nothing since Reggie Bush; but they routinely get the most coveted players!
If you aren't putting good coaching to work on all that raw talent you just end up with a "bunch of raw talent"! Still uncultivated! To the OP point - I can see that! Remember some of the Miami teams after Jimmy Johnson had "kept" the ball rolling after what's his name got it going! Johnson laid an outstanding foundation and coaches that followed just had to "follow the blueprint"!
Day - I believe was the OC under Meyer, correct! He knows the spread-speed-option well! He has incorporated it with RPO's and it's become a difficult offense to game plan for! Especially for Big 10 opponents who typically can roll in players who are just as talented as the starter! But, most of the time, OC's as head coaches lose a little something when they take the HC job! Some detail, some nuisance. I thought they had an outstanding team last football season. This years buck nuts - it's just hard to say!

If you look, we only signed 14 players in 2017. That

included three 5 Star players, six 4 Star players, and five 3 Star players.
The class was small because of available scholarships. The 2018 class Clemson signed 17 players. Six were 5 Star players, six were 4 Star players and five were 3 Star players.
The 2020 class was # 2 in the nation, with five 5 Star players, eleven 4 Stars, and seven 3 Stars in the class.

Rationally speaking, in a day and age where programs are left with bare cupboards and need a complete rebuild, Urban left OSU with riches. If you come in and don’t win? Coach Ghey better show results next year.
