Reasons we beat Georgia

1. Our defense will be the equalizer. They will put our Offense on the field a few extra times to allow inexperienced QBs to find a groove. 2. Their head coach is Tommy Bowden's underachieving half brother. 3.We win the turnover battle (refer to reason 1.) 4.We have something to prove and they have everything to lose. 5.I saw an elderly Clemson fan get hit in the head with an unopened beer the last time we played in Georgia, for absolutely no reason other than he was wearing Orange. His head was split wide open and it ruined the whole day for him and anyone who witnessed it, including other Georgia fans. We will win it for him.

I like just thinking that we are the better team. We were in Death Valley last year ...and we should be again in about 15 days.

We have all had or seen opposing fans act ignorantly, so not sure how that works in Clemson's favor.
I am not sure how a Clemson fan can be so confident in an overall inexperienced offense, yet be so certain that UGAs offense will be so weak or overpowered. The O line for UGA is solid and the 4 deep running backs are unprecedented in the NCAA other than possibly Alabama. UGA recruits very well as always and has plenty of weapons. If you think Clemson will shut down Gurley, then you may want to look at a few UGA game films.
I think the big question is going to be how much Clemson's offense will be able to move the ball and give the Clemson Defense a rest from the grind. UGA has a lot of inexperience in the defensive backfield, but not necessarily a lack of talent. The UGA front 7 arguably has future NFL players at every spot . There is a ton of talent there, just not sure how it will gel as of yet.

The UGA Oline versus Clemson's talented and deep front 7 will determine the outcome of the game, if turnovers are close to equal.
How is UGA's Oline?

They are the best in football. Everything UGA has is the best. Just ask any of their sunshine pumpers and they will gladly inform you of that.

I know. Yall are going to win the national championship every year. I have heard that crap about every day for the last 25 years and it has not happened yet. It won't happen this year. It won't happen next year. It won't happen as long as Richt is head coach.

No. Probably 5% of them. However, the 5% are so obnoxious they soil the image of all them. Seriously, in my experience, being at a game in Athens is far worse than being at a game in Cootlumbia.

I typically don't have issues at any opposing stadium. I do not taunt or act like an idiot and am big enough that most people don't mess with me regardlessly... I find that people who have horror stories from other stadiums also seem to be the ones who use low IQ and uncreative names to describe opposing teams. Keep an eye out for that...

I find that anyone wearing orange has problems in Athens. Most of my family are UGA fans. 22 of my close relatives have UGA season tickets. All of them readily admit that the obnoxious fans, though small in number, have become so bad that they do not even like taking their kids to a game against a bitter rival.

In all honesty, the Clemson-Carolina rivalry has gotten nasty both ways. The Coots do a lot of over the top stuff, and I have seen our fans do a lot of stuff I am not proud of. I have never seen anyone inside Death Valley get drinks poured on them (spilled yes, poured no), cans and bottles thrown at them, cussed out when they had their kids with them, or had stuff thrown at them on their way to the stadium. I have seen all that in Athens.

Sorry, but most UGA fans would stick up for a fan of any school if their kids were with them. I can make up anecdotal stories too, but it is pointless...

Georgia fans are different

[ in reply to Re: Reasons we beat Georgia ] |

That's usually true. I've never had problems even in Columbia - for all the invective, South Carolina fans aren't terrible, for the most part. Never had a problem in Chapel Hill, Raleigh, or Tally either.
Georgia fans...no. There's a Wal-Mart crowd that is just plain...repugnant, that's attached to that fan base, and they're awful, and they make the rest of them look bad by extension.
The only fan base I've seen that's worse is Maryland's. The Terp fans actually took pride in being "the most classless fans" on the planet...the ACC is well rid of Maryland, and the Big 10 will quickly grow to know and loathe them like we did.
Heard really bad things about West Virginia's fan base too, but I've never seen 'em up close for myself. But I can personally attest UGA's are right up there.

The Coots are not even close. UGA is almost as bad as LSU. If we played UGA every year, our hate for Coots would calm down quite a bit.

Not really. I have a lot of friends and family who are UGA fans. I enjoy giving them a hard time. They are all pretty good people. I just enjoy giving them a hard time about their lofty aspirations they have every year for the UGA football team. Seriously, we treat yall much better when you visit Clemson that your fans as a whole treat us when we visit Athens. (visit Athens for me is not really accurate, I am in Athens every day)

Well that settles it, everything at Clemson is unicorns and rainbows... And even though the Clemson campus is a stone's throw from where the infamous Deliverance scene was filmed, it is in fact UGA that has a vast, inbred fanbase... And Clemson students never drive down to the nasty town of Athens to party, but UGA students drive up to Clemson in droves to be a part of the legendary bar and music scene there ... And of course UGA has never been ranked higher than Clemson as an academic institution. After reading some of the ultra high IQ analysis here, I am not even sure how they can keep UGA open and operating...

Most of deliverance was filmed in North Georgia. Just the very end of the movie was filmed in SC. I do not think either fan base, as a whole, marries close cousins.

The REM Dawg has a point . It's right on the top of his head. Only here to flame ? I am connected with many UGa fans having lived in Savannah for 2 years , but those folks remind me of every other fan base I am familiar with . I have personally never felt like UGa fans were any more disruptive or whack-job than any others...but that isn't saying that they don't have their gems. Think we found one.

One could confuse those two scenes of the aftermath of UGA tailgating with scenes from New Orleans after Katrina.

Quick note about No. 5 ...
Aug 14, 2014, 6:45 AM
|
|
I'll preface this with the usual disclaimer: I know many Georgia fans who are every bit as pleasant on game day as Clemson folks. There aren't many, but they do exist.
That said the two things that make a visitor's game day experience in Athens so unpleasant is 1. The ratio of rude, threatening, cowardly hit-and-run attacks from their fan base is higher than any place I've seen EXCEPT Maryland and NC State during the lawless Clamato days.
2. The unwillingness or inability of the remaining Geogia fans to police their own leads to this form of visitor abuse. While there are times Clemson fans will get unruly with visitors, you are FAR more likely to see other Tigers step in and rebuke a wayward soul. In Athens, they give the abuser a high-five and another beer bottle to toss.

Lol... Most of my friends from UGA say Clemson has the worst fans. I know quite a few who have been attacked and had stuff thrown at them. One Clemson guy verbally assaulted their child. Clemson fans are known throughout most of the South for being the most vile towards their opponents fan bases.
See, I wrote that on the Internet now, so it must be true...

I'll be making my first trip back to Athens since going as a kid in the 80's. Obviously, fan behavior isn't a detail that I'm remembering from that experience. I will be glad to report an honest assessment of my gameday experience upon return.
I will say this... At last year's UGA/Clemson game in the Valley, I personally witnessed horrible behavior from some of our own. Cordial Dawg fans sitting in my section were harassed verbally throughout the game. A group of drunken 30 somethings were reliving their booze filled college days and relentlessly hurling expletives and derogatory crap throughout the game. I obviously attempted to intervene without much success, and did reach out to apologize on behalf of our University.... So, it can, and will happen everywhere. Unfortunately that's what happens when you mix passion with a full day's worth of consumption...
Having been attending games in the Valley since '83 I do honestly believe that our gameday experience to be incredibly cordial to visitors... But these isolated events have occurred and will continue to occur in upstate SC as well, and unfortunately the internet helps to perpetuate and distort the fanbase as a result.
Again, check back on Sunday the 31st, and I will happily give a true narrative of my experience in Athens...

Exactly how hard did you try to intervene?
Aug 14, 2014, 8:09 AM
|
|
If that happened and they would not stop I would get security. I sit directly above the largest section for visitors. I have seen very little over the top behavior from our fans. On one occasion two tigers were saying FU to GaTech band members. I asked them to stop. They continued. I told them I would get security and they made fun of me -until a bunch of other tigers around me said they would go with me. If you really want to stop that behavior you can.
