RIP. I just saw something the other day announcing his diagnosis.

for the '92 Pittsburg Pirates in game 7 of NLCS when the Braves made the comeback with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th. Wakefield was a great guy. Wonder if he got some knuckleball inspiration from Phil Niekro.

You sure that wasn’t Doug Drabek starting for the Pirates and going deep?

Oh yeah, I misunderstood the article

Says he won game 6 to keep the Pirates alive and was voted the NLCS MVP before the Braves comeback in the bottom of the 9th in game 7.

Drabek was pissed Leland took him out. He wanted a complete game and he was pretty much dominating the Braves.

Man, this is so sad. Hard to believe he retired in 2012. Seems he just pitched forever, which is the case for a lot of knuckleballers. Such a smart move to learn that pitch. Are there any left in MLB? I don’t follow baseball like I used to.

Damb! Just read some of the articles on him, his career and his illness. His wife is also battling cancer. That just sucks!

God Bless the Wakefield family.

gone too soon, loved watching him pitch

Dang that sucks

And that POS Curt Schilling announced it to the world that Wakefield had cancer when he didn't want it made public. Schilling even said he didn't know if Tim wanted it made public and then said it anyway.
