When you’re the place holder receiving the snap on a FG/PAT? This thought just occurred to me and I am shook. SOMEBODY EXPLAIN.

I believe this only allowed when in a kick formation

No...passes thrown behind the LOS are not "live" if they are not caught. That only applies to passes thrown backwards.

There is always a receiver within the area.

if it is done with the quarterback under center and immediately after the snap. No penalty is assessed

threw it in the vicinity of a receiver but out of bounds. The spike rule was designed to make the whole process faster.

I guess all XPs and FGs should not count since the holders knee is down before the kick.

Actually, there is an exception in the rules.

It's really not complicated. The rules allow for this as an exception.
