Gus. Not even close, one of the best characters cinema history.

Both about as perfect as one could hope for.

And Duval was perfectly cast as Gus.

And Tommy Lee Jones as Woodrow Call.***

1) definitely. Duvall was one of my dad's favorite actors. Really liked Eastwood too. Of course his fav movie of all time was "The outlaw Josey Wales". He'd watch it every time he ran across it flipping channels :) Boy, what I wouldn't give to sit on the couch and watch it again with him one more time...

Let's just have a Lonesome Dove, Big Jake and Unforgiven marathon. I actually watched Big Jake last night on one of the Samsung TV western channels, but I could watch it again at the end of a marathon.

Unforgiven is one of the best movies ever.

The dialogue is outstanding. I get chills when I see any one of many memorable scenes from the movie.

"I've killed women and children. I've killed everything that walks or crawls at one time or another. And I'm here to kill you, ##$$%%&^%, for what you done to @+*"

Lonesome Dove is one of my favorite books and the movie is very good, but it lacks the power of Unforgiven.

I would go with Unforgiven, but I must admit I somehow missed Lonesome Dove. I remember my Dad loved it though.

The Kurt Russell or Kevin Costner Tombstone?

I'll go with the Kurt Russel one if for nothing else, Val Kilmer over Dennis Quaid as Doc?
