Programs that cant win the big one, like Oregon

Often flirting with a national championship, but can’t quite get over the hump. Other teams in history matching this description:

Buffalo Bills
U of Houston basketball - Phi Slamma Jamma and modern era
Gonzaga basketball
Florida State baseball
Arkansas baseball
Clemson baseball

Roy Williams era Kansas also matches this description, but obviously they have one a few championships pre and post Roy.

How could I possibly have left that off the list? 🙄

Didn’t have a clue, but happy when Ohio State is suffering, so glad to know this.

But it certainly fits. They are top 5 literally every season and have made the final four several times. And national runner up 3 times but no national title.

Just for football, I think of Utah, Wisconsin and Penn St

How about the Cleveland Guardians (previously the Indians)? Not since 1948 have they won much of anything. Buffalo and Vancouver in the NHL have never won cups. Nor has Buffalo ever won a Super Bowl. San Diego Padres and Chargers have pretty bare cupboards. To mention a few.

No argument tigerphils ... But if Lanning stays with Oregon, look for Phil Knight and his money to do well in the B1G with B1G media machine and improved recruiting. Michigan and Ohio St now have the competitor that Penn St has not been for a long time. IMHO this is a coming out party for Lanning & Oregon who are on on the upswing.

Yea, Oregon seems to be a net winner in the transfer portal battles, and that will probably accelerate bc Uncle Phil still has plenty of money. They’ll be in a 12 team playoff their fare share, but winning that first one is tough.
