Dabo should know that he and the football team are not meeting his definition of Best is the standard.
Dabo said, "We want to be the best Clemson can be. It's effort, preparation, work ethic, attitude -- all the things that you can control and relevant to your being your best."
Duke game: Clemson football grossly failed to match that definition.
I believe no one, not even Dabo, would think that for any game this season has Clemson has done its very best, that every player and coach has done their very best with the things that they can control and are relevant to being their best.
Fumbles. Poor tackling. No separation. Missed Oline assignments. Bad defensive scheme at end of half. Poor QB reads. Incorrect routes or not being on same page.
Every one of those items is within the control of either player or coach or both.
So where does BEST is the standard mean trying your best or giving "best" effort. If it was giving good effort, then sure. But not if you say BEST.
People make mistakes. I make seven a day at least. That is not the issue.
The issue is when you make a statement that "BEST is the standard" and you quote that when winning and playing well, then you must own the same statement and recognize when you are not meeting or providing your BEST when your team is 4-2 and not 6-0. And for the last few years, your program's record over ranked teams is not very good. Certainly not the best.
Personally, I have no problem with Dabo's comments or phrases. I just do not want to see any weaseling out or finding ways to make a credo fit when obviously the team is not meeting their own expectations.

Despite the word "standard" having the meaning of:
"an idea or thing used as a measure, norm, or model in comparative evaluations."
Dabo never meant that apparently. I've updated the banner to show what he really meant.

maybe the players are trying their best, but some of the lazy hires Dabo's had and his reluctance to utilize every form of talent aquisition to make the "best" roster possible (when Clemson players hit the portal), shows Dabo's not doing HIS BEST.
example: the Streeter hire - LAZY and far from "the best" he/Clemson could do.........thankfully he admitted his wrong (albeit a year late), fired him and went out and got the best.

Beg to differ with your Streeter comment...he had to deal with a totally dysfunctional QB that Dabo and company got sold a bill of goods on...however you are right if best is the standard then recruiting and coaching needs to be BEST as well...you can't have best if you don't recognize better or make accountability extend to actual play on the field! A coaches assessment of a player at practice should not take precedent over what happens in a game..that's on Dabo and company...still I will take Dabo every time for 2 Jimbo Fishers, 3 Dean's and a handful of idiots from Miami & Oregon! In Best that includes outcomes!

I disagree. DJ was not a good fit for RPO type QB. He is more pro-style QB and has been good at OSU. Maybe coaching and recruiting are bigger issues. The O-line is not great and running has suffered. But Clemson O lines have never been that great. Entienne made up for it, Gallman etc. Running QB is part of the equation too. Parks injury has exposed the O line issues more, as shortage yardage in red zone is an adventure now. CK would be better if his supporting cast were better.

It’s pretty crazy that you actually looked up the definition but didn’t bother to read it. “Used as a measure” not “invariably achieved”. Peak arrogance is thinking you actually are demanding more and holding them to a higher “standard” than they do themselves.

This is so tiresome. Best is standard is a goal. We don't always reach our goals. Same goes for coaches, players, cheerleaders, and fans. It is something to strive for and seek to attain. It doesn't mean you will always meet it.

We need to learn from, but not dwell on, our early season failures. This is a huge momentum game…one direction or the other.
The standard is the standard, whether we meet it and celebrate it, or we fall short and acknowledge it.

I’m pretty sure Dabo understands this team hasn’t played up to their standards this year.

At some point, Dabo changed it to mean "Best Friends are the standard". He really thought his moral high ground preaching was what won football games, not Clemson buying facilities or BV defensive schemes.
Dabo will crash and burn before he admits he was wrong about the transfer portal, NIL, and all the position coaches with no talent to justify their salaries.
