Neuheisel and Wes Durham were talking on SiriusXM about

how we refuse the portal. They then listed about 10-15 transfer players that had great individual performances for their new teams this weekend. It's a shame that they all would have messed up Clemson's culture had they come here instead.

You can't praise the culture when it works and then turn around and trash it when we lose. This culture is the reason we have championship expectations and the reason 4 and 5 star kids keep coming to Clemson. They aren't coming to sit behind portal players.

Does what worked in the past seem to still be working to you? We can't stand in quick sand and just HOPE we don't keep sinking. Dabo does not have the magic formula to halt change. It is happening with or without him.

Look at how LSU has fared with transfer players:

One CFP championship (they beat us after 2019 season).

Several other under performing seasons without playoff appearance. Looks like 2023 will be another on the sidelines year for LSU.

Colorado? Watch for when they play a defense with a pulse (K.State … uh, that’s right, no other Big 12 teams play defense). Penetrating CO’s defense is easier than shooting a bullet through a Kleenex.

Not apples to apples at all. When we were winning up to

2020 there was no portal, no NIL. Our “culture” was getting the high school players we wanted on the same playing field as other teams those teams were bringing in all the same agars and experience we were. Now teams are getting better high school players overall as well as supplementing with 2/3/4 year experienced college players and we are only adding in 18 year olds to our roster. It’s not the same thing anymore. Not even close. I bet FSU is a way older and experienced team than us without even looking. Not to mention I’m pretty sure we were not taking as many Buddy Buddy players pre 2020 that we have post 2020. You could also say we are not replacing experienced coaches with outside of Clemson’ experience with experienced coaches. Our stay is years less experienced than before with on field college coaching. (Konn and Hall’s high school exp does not count)

College football has changed since 2020 with NIL and the portal. Dabo needs to adapt or continue to get letter behind. This program has been declining from a talent stand point since 2018. There's to many recruiting misses, lack of development, bad coaching and lack of creativity from this staff. Everyone not wearing orange colored glasses can see it, except our head Coach.

If / when we start LOSING star players to the portal is when we will get worried.

Please remember that we did indeed pursue portal star center Olusegun Oluwatimi (UVA player) before start of 2021 season. This guy was All American last year after transferring to MI via the portal.

We missed out, but not for lack of trying.

If you play like a 4 or 5 star, you won't sit behind a portal transfer. If you are a 4 star and play like a 2 star, you may find yourself with less reps or none. It is a performance and results game. The players get it. Especially the ones the aspire to the next level. It is brutally cutthroat there. Welcome to 2023!

But does it still work. Look at the 2024 class. We missed on a lot of guys, OL especially. You watch, we will start losing recruits to other programs. The Vultures are circling. NIL and the portal are the future. Acknowledge it or not at your own foolishness. This is a coaching disaster. Dabo may be to late to the new college football party.

They wont sit

If they are good and we won’t need to hit the portal if they pan out.

I believe a man that has built what he has should be supported and given the benefit of the doubt. If I were, and I’m not, a parent of an elite talent, and I wanted him to be given a chance to be coached and know going in that the portal wouldn’t get in the way I would send him there. Deep threats in the wide receiver groups aren’t always 4.3 guys they are solid in their abilities to create separation. I watched with a knot in my stomach because Clemson couldn’t get out of its own way. Plays were vanilla, but if anyone thinks Duke beat Clemson, more than Clemson beat Clemson. Duke was flying to the ball and they basically cashed in on self inflicted errors. Give Duke credit they out played Clemson. Games like this happen. I’d rather see it now with a chance to recover. Clemson beats FSU by 6. His way works.

please, you think adding a couple of transfers is going to

Sep 5, 2023, 9:24 PM [ in reply to Re: Neuheisel and Wes Durham were talking on SiriusXM about ]

ruin our culture? Please, if players can't compete, then that's on them.

The culture argument is outdated and weak.....

Thats doesn't mean you don't need good culture. I have no doubt Dabo will have the best "possible culture" of what is attainable in today's environment. In addition, him being all-in with his current players & mainly not using the portal is admirable. However, some of those same kids you are trying to protect are now bailing on you... 85 is already a low number..... Nothing erodes culture more than losing games when you have superior talent....

By NOT taking ANY highly ranked portal kids...unlike BAMA/UGA/OSU (they use it very lightly--the ideal way IMO)....you are essentially saying you HIT ON EVERYONE and don't need reinforcements due to mis-evals; injuries; transfers; dismissals, etc.... This expectation of recruiting perfection belies reality and frankly is quite alarming particularly when you consider the reality of CFB in today's world.

Our Roster Management give us ZERO room for error. NONE. Doesn't have to be this way.
Again, 85 is already a low number. I think we can all agree that getting the vast majority of your kids from the HS ranks is THE best way to build a team. But ignoring the portal for getting elite players when there is a need, is nothing more than stubbornness and sabatoge.

Change is hard..Dabo did it with something else he hated (summer visits) he needs to do it here....

I think if we had the top 3 wrs from the portal, this offense would still suck.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just curious if they talk about the transfers that stink or

Sep 5, 2023, 6:37 PM

End up on the bench or whatever.
Same with that NYT article…
Some non-transfers had some great games this weekend too…including Leonard from Duke.

Now it probably would benefit us to have portaled a player or two…but I’m pretty sure that the transfer stuff is a little one sided right now from the media and everyone else.

of course not all portal players will hit - but to think there are none that can help us is wrong.
