Divorce Attorney Recommendations

My father (retired) is going through a divorce. Step mom walked out. Does anyone have any recommendations on attorneys in the area? He’s in Oconee but looking for quality over location. A specialty in men’s defense is ideal. He was the breadwinner and now on a fixed income and trying to fight for his retirement.

Used them, they had a young, fairly untested attorney who got smoked.
Check out Chip Howard, Howard Law, in Greenville. He's a Clemson alum, great guy, and a great attorney. After THREE (very expensive!) tries of getting custody of my kids, Chip got it done and was very fair in his pricing. Highly, highly, highly recommended.

You don't need a great attorney, just find out which decent attorney plays golf with the judges.

Not true, I raked my ex-wife over the coals and got the house and a very favorable financial settlement. Need a good attorney, and lots and lots of evidence and testimony , which I had both

Then I’d have to assume there was something more than an amicable split involved. Without adultery/abuse involved, hard to argue against a 50/50 split.

Lucked out on my divorce. Shared custody and we split the financials ourselves. She got an attorney to take care of the paperwork portion and we both paid on that deal. Would have done a few things differently but we were both ready to get out. Just glad it happened.

There is so much missing from your post. Is she a younger gold digger? Was she a long time partner for your dad? Right off the bat , assume that she gets half. You mentioned that she walked out. If she is with another man, get pics. If she is fearful for her safety, your dad is done. How long have they been married? If over ten years again, your dad is done. Did she help raise you all while he worked? Take emotion out of it and think about what is fair. Once you decide what is for, fight like the devil for it. Good Luck.

If they can work it out on their own it would be 50-50 split in SC. or whatever they decide. Just remember lawyers will take as much as you let them if you can’t agree on anything. Get them to sit down and hash it out. That said. Scott Dover is very good and down to earth. He is in Pickens. He eventually was my attorney and I would use him again. He would tell you what I told you. Make it easy and cheaper or argue and pay up. It’s up to the two people getting the divorce. Lawyers are just the middlemen that like the pie too.

Sorry for what you dad is going through. You will be in my prayers. I prayer that he finds the right attorney. Make sure he is the meanest cutthroat you can find. I mean that sincerely because if she walkout that should be considered desertion. But you can bet she has planned this and is ready to get what she can. Don’t give an inch because then she will take a mile.
IMO Divorce is hell on earth ! No matter how friendly it is in most all divorce cases it tuff. So you will be in many people’s prayers. Best to you dad.
