I wish him the best but I have serious doubts. I have very little basis for my opinion. Wishing him the best. Didn't he give up a scholarship at Miss.St. to walk on at Clemso two years ago?

IMO he was the best option we had last season when DW4 went down. By best option, I mean he was the most capable to run or offense as a dual-threat. Much more mobile than Stoudt and still had a little upside. Since he has a legitimate shot at winning the backup job, and could potentially be one play away from being the guy, I see him putting in the work this offseason to solidify that job. Since the coaching staff has praised him all spring, and hasn't given him any negative ammunition to work with tells me they're genuinely confident in his ability as the backup. I guess only Saturday will tell up to this point.

I don't think that had anything to do with it. They weren't confident in him because he had very little meaningful snaps in practice. I thought he looked very capable in the limited amount of game time he saw last year. Every bit as capable, maybe even more so than Stoudt. I think this is just a case of the coaches either underestimating Nick's talent cause they haven't seen him practice much or they legitimately thought Stoudt gave them the best chance to win ( It was probably a little of both. ).

So I get the vibe a lot of people are hesitant about Nick

partly because he's been getting praise from Dabo. I'm sure everyone remembers the praise Dabo was giving Stoudt throughout the season last year and things didn't seem to go very well for Stoudt until the OU game.
With that said, I remember seeing Nick last Spring and actually thought he looked pretty good and was fairly mobile on his feet. I don't remember what all he had to work with as far as talent, but he looked pretty decent from the times I've seen him play...pretty strong arm, quick on his feet.
I actually like Nick and think he could be a very serviceable QB. I only wonder about his current size and durability. From the pics I've seen of him in practice, he looks a bit on the bean pole side...

Dabo speaks of Nick just as he spoke of Cole last spring.

I think a healthy Cole would have been fine last year

Unfortunately the injury really limited what he could do. The Oklahoma game backs this up - given some time to recover, he played very effectively.

But therein lies the rub. Even with a hurt Cole the coaches wouldn't put Nick in except rarely. When they did, he didn't do so well. If your backup qb gets hurt you rep the heck out of your 3rd string guy...which they did. I wish the best for Nick I really do. But the hype this year is all to reminiscent of last year with Cole. It boggles the mind that Cole beat out Deshaun.
But I hope Nick does well, there isn't anything Dabo can do but say positive things. He can't get out there and say anything but positive things.
I think that neither Israel or Bryant redshirts this year.
Go Tigers!

I don't think saying Stoudt was a very bad QB is bashing him, I think it's honest. And to think, this time last year everyone on here was talking ab Stoudt being better than Boyd and running a more "efficient" offense hahaha

Very true, he should have tried to go to the league as a first through third down punter

Nick Scheussler vs. Cole
Apr 10, 2015, 9:15 AM

Let's face it, Cole had a rough year in 2014. However, one thing can be said for Nick. Nick now has Coach Streeter while Cole only had him for the bowl game.
We know that Coach Morris was a terrific OC but couldn't spend the needed time developing QBs. Do you think that any of our QBs really improved during their time at Clemson? Tahj became a better runner, but he really didn't improve his passing game. I am not trying to slam Cole or Coach Morris. I am simply saying that Nick has a different chance to improve than Cole did.
