My $.02 on the basketball game last night

Dec 11, 2022, 9:55 AM

If we need to shoot better than 40% on 3 pointers to win I believe that is a problem. I know we were shooting 42% coming into the game but 40% is hard to sustain and would be a pretty lofty goal for the season. If we can do it then we should have a good year, but how many teams can realistically expect to do that over the whole season?

I would like to see a lot more of the give and go type movement that Tyson and Hall ran successfully once in the first half. We have too many guys standing around the 3 point arc. I know Tyson can shoot the 3 but he and Hall are our bigs so they need to be playing on the block more. Especially on nights when his early 3 point attempts all hit the front of the rim like last night.

And like I said last week, Hemenway is one dimensional. He can be deadly if he is allowed to catch and shoot the 3 but if that is not available he becomes totally ineffective offensively as was the case last night. He played the most minutes of anyone and shot 1/3 for 3 points. If he is going to play that many minutes he has to be more productive. Don’t know if the problem is with him or not getting good screens or the play calling but it didn’t look like he was actively cutting to the arc like he does when he is most effective. So my guess is play calling or the guy on him defensively just took him out of his game. I’ll have to watch that closer next game.

We need a lot more offensive rebounds. See comment above about too much standing around the 3 point line.

They hit the 3s and we didn’t. Living and dying with the 3 ball is fun to watch on a good night but also results in blow-outs like last night on bad nights. I would prefer we leave the 3s to guys like Hemenway, Hunter, Galloway and Beadle and play a little more low post game to help on nights the 3s aren’t falling.

In these inflationary times. Last night isn't worth the outlay. ;)

I watched it on TV. I was looking at season tickets on the secondary market but will probably just go to a few games this year. Maybe look into the season tix next year. I’ll be retired then and won’t have to get up and go to work the next morning after week night games.

Spot on.

But, last night's 14% won't happen often either. Watching, I thought we got very impatient last night in the 2nd half. We pressed and imo reverted to typical Brad teams of past. That won't happen often and I think they learn a lot from last night.

As for not being ready. Isn't this week finals. May have a bit to do with it also... but you nailed it on scheme last night.

I count 8 remaining games that will be top talent we face. Beyond those, about what we've faced to date. We good.

Finals start tomorrow. Might be why the band didn’t travel.

And I agree I don’t expect 14% very often but I would expect 30-35% as a season average. I would consider anything over 35% average for the season to be a success.

Just when we were starting to to get excited about having a solid team BAM!!!!!!!!
They pull another Brownell and get blownout by a weaker opponent. Some things never change.

I saw you posted that last night. I agree. When the shots aren’t falling we need a plan B. Do we have anyone who is really good at creating off the dribble? Maybe Beadle?
