The attached chart is the most accurate depiction of where the two parties have been on the ideological scale from 1975 - 2012.
These DW Nominate scores were developed by Keith T. Poole and Howard Rosenthal at Carnegie-Mellon University. Dr. Poole was at UGA while I was studying for my Masters in Political Science. He was brilliant - and very conservative ideologically.
These ideological scores are based on a detailed analysis of every role call vote in Congress. This is the gold-plate standard in political science and lots of the most knowledgeable political people in the country wait for each year's new scores to come out.
As you can clearly see, the Republican Party has move farther away from the center than have Dems over the last 35 years. So when you talk about far-left wackos, you might want to readjust your sense of center. The reason some progressives seem so far left to y'all is because you keep moving to the right.

LOL at you whining at people TD'ing posts. I know every time I've wound you up because there's this furious spate of zap zap zap all over my recent posts and I can all but hear your teeth grinding in fury from hundreds of miles away, which just sorta makes me shake my head, like: dude. I'm trying to figure out if there's some mythical universe somewhere, somewhen when that Tigernet score of ours is actually ever going to matter, like this incredibly epic high score I once left on an old game of Galaga in an arcade back in the day? (Because that score lives on in Valhalla, I know this, and I will not argue.)
So I guess if it makes you feel better, boo, have at it. Zap away.

I just can't wrap my brain around why some Republicans broke ranks but not Democrats. It probably has nothing to do with the merits of the arguments though so I'll just double down on my own stupidity.

The sad part is, Billy Bumpz was a dirty horndog and had an acre of shady stuff at least back in his Little Rock days when he and Hillary were penny-ante small-time hustlers; Ken Starr was just a meandering nincompoop and couldn't catch him at any of it and ended up settling for busting Bill for, uhm, busting on a doe-eyed office intern and lying about it, which is about a weaksauce a case as you can make for impeachment. I mean, how is that not an ordinary Wednesday in Washington? There was acres of real shady stuff all over Whitewater, real hand-in-cookie-jar stuff, and Starr the lead-footed just couldn't pin Slick Willy down. Drove me flat bananas because I really, truly did think Bill Clinton had probably done more than enough to get himself impeached.
But here they had the Donald cold on video calling for revolution with his own voice, which is about as open and shut as stuff gets...and it's Nothing To See Here.
Okay then.

Now that you guys are OUT of power, you want to talk about bipartisanship. Let me make two points.
1. Biden reached out to 10 Senators about cooperation on a meaningful stimulus bill. Those Republicans came in with a ridiculously low-ball counter offer that was basically McConnell's 6 month old joke warmed over. THEY did not take bipartisanship seriously and so the Dems moved on to get the real help to the American people that they needed.
2.While Mitch McConnell was the majority leader in the Senate, he refused to allow over 400 bills that had passed the House to even come to the floor of the Senate for a vote. He bragged about being the Grim Reaper - just like he bragged that his main legislative priority would be to deny Obama a 2nd term.
Why should the Dems think that such a person would ever be interested in bipartisanship ?

You don't control the WH - or the Senate - or the H of R. Sop that is what I meant by out of power.

T3
1. I am glad that the numbers are going down, but that is only because of the massive peak that resulted from poor holidays hygiene discipline. The number is still higher than it was at any time for the first 6 months of the pandemic - when we were worried about being overrun by this virus. Let's keep things in perspective.
2. Let the Senators vote on it. Why should one man usurp the rights of duly elected Senators ? And back to my point, why should I believe that he has any sincere intentions of bipartisanship ?
3. Really ? the YOU started it argument ? That is not even legit in a schoolyard argument, much less in the Congress of the US.

They keep talking about how bipartisan this was...even in a losing effort...again.
Why is it only Republicans are bipartisan? 10 in the House and 5-7 in the Senate this time. Not one Dem broke ranks through this whole process. Can you really tell me that every single Dem felt unanimous about every single vote? Even Joe Manchin?
In the Bill Clinton Impeachment trial, all 45 Dems voted against both charges.
Between THREE impeachments, only 5 Dems broke ranks out of both the House and Senate portions...and those were only two votes in the House for articles against Clinton. Dems voted in lockstep in ALL of the other votes.
We’re seeing this elsewhere now too with all of the budget reconciliation talk. They will absolutely pass anything and everything they can along party lines with Kamala as the decider.
This...my fine fake independent friends and Republicans who voted for Biden...is why you can’t give Dems majorities, no matter how much you hate Tweets. Don’t say I didn’t tell you so.
Bipartisan voting as the deciding factor in general often signifies an increase in the rate of growth of the fed gov't and/or RINO's exposing their true allegiance- Partisan voting/Gridlock= the inverse Gridlock is a bcs when the party is crippled by an infestation
