Quebec City and Montreal

I’m going to QC and Montreal with a couple of friends right after this semester ends. Can anybody give any recommendations on things to do in each city? Places to eat, what to eat, Night life, historical sights, natural wonders, etc. Also, what would be the best/cheapest way to get from QC to Montreal? Go Tigers!

Are you a communist?

Seems like you might prefer a place that's a little closer to the "worker's paradise" model espoused by your namesake handle, somewhere like Cuba or Venezuela...
If you haven't made that leap yet and you're still identifying as a socialist, you could go hang with Beto in Austin or Bernie in scenic Vermont.

Surely, given his name and his profile pic, he identifies as being a Marxist.

Libertarian socialist? Did you come up with that?

Because I think I would fall into that catergory as well.
And Joe Beef in Montreal. If you can get in, you should go.

No, I did not come up with that term. It looks confusing to my fellow Americans because we use the term Libertarian and Socialism differently than their original meaning. I use Libertarian as described by people like Adam Smith and Thomas Jefferson, people who opposed wage labor and division of labor, while advocating for perfect liberty. And I use the term socialism as described by Marx, who believed that we should consolidate power into the hands of the working class, or what he called the “dictatorship of the proletariat”. I still use the historical definitions, which often confuses people.

Isn’t Jeffersonian type freedom and Marxist control of the means of production inherently at odds?

Not when we view Marxism through the lens of Lenin, Stalin, and Mao. Socialism split in the late 19th and early 20th centuries over the role of the state. You had Lenin’s branch being statists, and people like Rosa Luxemburg being non-statists. You would have to read through the non-statist literature to get a full understanding, but it’s basically anarchism without all the violence that people usually associate with it. There’s basically no state, no institutions, just straight democracy at every level of society, including at work. It’s hard to explain.

YOUR condescending self-righteous political beliefs. Take a flying leap off your soap box. As to my age, you missed it by half a century.

both of those times were back in the 1990's. English was spoken in Montreal but it seem Quebec City was mostly french speaking. It may have changed since I have been there though. Enjoy your trip!

I never made it to QC but I've heard it's beautiful...unfortunately I've also heard it can be a little bit more challenging to find English speakers there though.
However I've been to Montreal a couple of times and it's beautiful. If you're going at the beginning of the summer you'll have a blast. The food is incredible in Montreal as are the strip clubs, if that's your thing. In general, the women are beautiful. I'd recommend visiting Old Montreal, a historical neighborhood with beautiful architecture and great restaurants.
I had several amazing meals at places whose names I can't remember, but the one name I do remember is Schwartz'. Make sure you get a smoked meat sandwich from there...it's absolutely incredible.
Enjoy the trip!

I keep hearing amazing this about the food. I’m so excited. The best food I’ve ever had was in New Orleans. I was never really a seafood or spice person, but man that food was incredible. And then the food in Munich and Rome was amazing as well. Thanks for your reccomendations!
