Keith Maguire is why we should pay attention to offers, not stars

Recruiting rankings are highly overrated IMHO. I’ve almost stopped paying attention to coverage of it. Take our newest commitment as another example. ESPN doesn’t seem to know who he is, Rivals has him as a three-star, and yet...it’s as if coaches like Dabo, Jimbo, Urban, and Nick don’t care.
If Brent Venerables wants you, if Nick Saban wants you, if Urban Meyer wants you, then you are in fact a legit prosoect regardless of what anyone else thinks or says.
Welcome Mr Maguire.

Definitely happy with the take...
But recruiting rankings as a whole aren’t overrated. You will always have a Vic Beasley, Hunter Renfrow, Gaines Adams, etc...
But over a total population 5 stars are better than not... DW4, Wilkins, T Law, Big Dex, etc...

Offers definitely should mean more than stars and at times even offers don't mean as much

understand what they are and what they are not (and what they are supposed to be and what they are not supposed to be).
They are (and are supposed to be) a consolidated source of information on high school football players who are being recruited by college football programs. They openly provide their own opinions in the form of "star" and numerical rankings, which generally reflect the opinions (as demonstrated by offers) of the most successful coaches and programs in the country. They are a one-stop-shops that provide a lot of information to avid college football fans. They exist to make a profit and depend on getting a lot of clicks.
They are NOT (nor do the pretend to be) infallible, or a substitute for real evaluation by real coaches who consider many factors the ranking services do not and can not.
For me, the fact that they miss on a lot of players, either overrating or underrating, and exist to make a profit, in no way detracts from their value. I take them for what they are and enjoy the information they provide.

I don't care if they have 10 stars and an offer by the Patriots PRODUCTION is what really matters.
That being said I'll take as many stars and offers as possible. The stats are there supporting the star ranking is accurate.

I think his speed is what keeps him a midrange recruit star wise. We expect a LB to be able to cover the occasional cross route and TE breaking off and at a 4.91 40 that isn’t good. Example how bad we got beat by TE when Boulware was guarding them because he is so slow, Ben did his job and extremely well but wasn’t a complete package because of his speed. He fills teams need but not the “ideal” need for that position.

He is definitely faster than a 4.91 and plenty could have caused him to run slower. He is closer to a 4.6 kid. He is very athletic though and a smart player.

a year out from signing day. There's loads of evidence to suggest that recruiting rankings have a strong correlation with on field success.

If rankings don't matter then why worry about where Clemson is ranked at come signing day? What's it matter? When Clemson brings in a lower ranked recruit ppl try to justify it in whatever matters they can, but laugh at other schools bringing in the same caliber player. Keith McQuire is ranked appropriately right now. The same can be said for Kalen Deloach. Both good players that will need to be coached up and we got the defensive staff to do so.
