Guess it’s playoffs or bust

For players deciding on bowl games or nfl futures. We are playing in the freaking orange bowl. Hate to see it. It’s not like we are playing in the toilet bowl.

We're playing for a bowl full of oranges and to maybe get to #6 in the country. Murphy is a guaranteed Top 10 pick with nothing to gain and everything to lose.
Dude is looking at a $13M+ signing bonus in 4 months whether he plays in the OB or not. If he gets injured, I guarantee he does not have an insurance policy for that amount.

JSN has been injured all year.
He is "opting out" because he won't be close to 100%

Imo, solid first rounders should go.

No way I'd advise one of my sons or grandsons to risk losing a lifetime of earnings for one or two ball games. I know I would have had a certain dilemma had it been me.
Games are important but they aren't life.

I think Dabo advises 1st rounders to go.

It just seems like Dabo to be that way. A game is a game, a signing bonus for a first rounder is life, it's not a game.

They made the right call. Another reason to expand the playoff.

Prior to 2014 most rookie NFL contracts had very little guaranteed outside of the top 5 (which were usually bloated). No reason to opt out for a guaranteed $500k or whatever.
We've also seen several players in the past 20 years cost themselves millions after getting injured in bowl games and that is informing many of the decisions in 2022 and beyond.

I agree "that's the age we live in". Someone else said, "they would advise their sons or kids not to play"!
I understand "The Fear"! But, if you are going to have your kids lift, run, jump, exercise, workout, etc. in preparation to impress pro scouts - they are at just as much risk.
How?
Easy!
The majority of injuries in college and NFL training rooms are soft tissue injuries that were due to "NON-CONTACT"!
How many bicep tears, Quad pulls/strains, hamstring issues, acl tears while cutting or doing short-shuttle before people understand "playing the game is not really the issue"!
Hurt yourself during training and you still hurt your draft stock! Check it out and get back with me. It happens annually.

Just to confirm: you're postulating that the amount of catastrophic injuries in bowl games is equal to the amount of catastrophic injuries in the 4 weeks that a player would be training from the final game to the end of season?
If a player hurts themselves after bowl games, that would happen whether they missed the bowl game or played in it. So really you're just comparing bowl game injuries to the 4 weeks of training in December

I'd wager every penny I have Murphy played through some injuries this year and fought through until Clemson won the ACC. This is good for both parties, it helps recruiting when you have guys drafted in the first round, it let's them get healthy before the biggest test in their life, it allows the coaches to evaluate what they have for next year on the roster. There is no championship at the end of this game, this game is for the fans, the players, and coaches to build going into next year. I don't see any issue with a guy opting out especially if he knows he's a first round pick and wants to be fully healthy to go represent himself and his university at the combine and as an NFL player.
