Any members of the Letterwinners Association on the board?

May 10, 2023, 7:58 AM

The reason I ask, I was reading through the March 2023 edition of the Orange Experience and saw the photos celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The spread depicts a group of female members of Clemson's Block C Club, some of whom are wearing letterwinners sweaters.

I am a four-year letter winner at Clemson but I honestly don't remember anyone in my day receiving sweaters or having the option of getting a sweater instead of the traditional purple letterwinners jacket. Everyone got the jackets.

Long before my time at Clemson, I know letterwinners did receive sweaters. Maybe that's something that's just available for the ladies today?

What is your recollection?

I can't answer your question but I received a sweater in 1959. Freshmen could not play varsity sports at that time. No jacket or sweater for freshman. In 1960 I received a jacket when I lettered. In 1961 I received neither. Don't know why. Maybe I'm due a sweater or jacket.

I've had to replace my jacket twice...

because...well...let's face it, I'm not the same size today that I was when I finished my undergraduate degree in 1985.

My youngest daughter (also a Clemson grad) has and wears the jacket that I received in 1981/82.

That's interesting. Didn't know one could replace jacket or sweaters. My jacket still fits after 63 years but my sweater got moth holes. Can it be replaced? Did you get a jacket each of your four years?

I did not get a new jacket each of my four years...

and I purchased the two replacements from the Letterwinners Association.
