Are you saying the quality of players dont matter to the outcome of games? What is your prediction for next year?

That Brownell has proven to be creative in losing.
So of course better players helps, though I'm not convinced that Girard > Tyson, so it might be a wash.
In the end, we'll be slightly-above-average, because that's our coach's ceiling.

And by slightly above average, you mean sweet 16, as that is brownell's "ceiling" at this point in his clemson career?

The other 12 years are slightly above average.
The only people who won't see that are you and your brother.
But as I say, feel free to get excited.
And enjoy your letdown in March...again.

Developed Gabe DeVoe. I would say CBB has done a great job at a non-basketball school in a basketball crazy conference.

You like to point to last year, but that's actually an argument against Brownell.
The ACC was very average, we had BAD losses, and ended with a huge thud. Average year. Average program. Average coach.
I want more than winning seasons. I want greatness. See: football, baseball this year, softball, Track & Field, even women's lacrosse! The difference? Great coaches.
You and BB's apologists aim low, so you will always hit your target.
Some of us expect better. Some of us know better. But by all means, enjoy your mediocrity.

Yet how many NCAA appearances with HIS recruits. Hint: first two were inherited players.

You said slightly above average was his ceiling.
Brownell's "ceiling" since he has been at clemson is sweet 16.
Sorry for interpreting your post exactly as you typed. Maybe you dont know what "ceiling" means as it pertains to coach/player performance?
Also there were a lot of players involved in our sweet 16 run. It wasn't just gabe devoe.

Great coaches (or leaders in any field) yield great results. It's almost a 1:1 correspondence.
You apologists attempt to make it complicated, but it's not.
The basketball program will continue to be slightly above average as long as we have a slightly above average coach.
It's black and white.

That's not even close to average and all of this after Bradball took over an NC2A team, then drove it into the dirt.
Brownelling is a thing.

Crazy what the other coaches at a “ a non-basketball school in a basketball crazy conference” were able to accomplish. I understand Cobbox’s motives though. He enjoys his “cocktails with coach” before the game and courtside seats. He knows a good coach won’t have time for the former and that a good coach will make the latter unaffordable. Brownell helps preserve his sense of self-importance. While I think it’s dumb, it’s at least explainable behavior.

His “ceiling” is a single Sweet Sixteen every 13 seasons. That is mediocre by Power 5 standards considering standards considering not one other program in the 64 team era has ever given ANY OTHER COACH a 14th season having accomplished so little. None.

brownell will find a way to screw it up. That guy can destroy a players confidence in less than a week and run some of the cumbersome offenses known to man. This much is a proven fault.

I agree 1000%. We had a team capable of elite 8 last season. Possibly final four. The common denominator of failure is Brownell. Continuing to support Brownell fulfills Einstein’s definition of insanity. Fact.

I get tired of the argument of how good Brownell does at a non-basketball school. Alabama was #1 in the country at basketball last year. They recruit well and play the portal game well. Brownell teams do not win the close games and are terrible on the road (no matter level of opponent). Each year he is coach, I can eliminate our chances of a final 4. He recruits and coaches like a mid major coach and I think he could excel back at one but is average at best in the ACC. I think we will make the tournament this year with talent we have back, but will lose 1st round to someone that we have no business losing to. Not many coaches could start off a conference year 10-0 and then miss the dance. That should have been the end but Neff didn't have the guts to end it so now the fans must suffer through another stretch of disappointment

Don't know where you got the idea that "Brownell's teams are terrible on the road", but he's equally inept at home it appears.
