Losing Cade, Salyer, and Webb to Georgia kind of sucks tbh.

I imagine they have the same feelings about guys like Tre Lamar , Deshaun Watson , Lyn-J Dixon , Trevor Lawrence , Justin Mascoll , Kyler McMicheal and Andrew Booth . Yep , Webb was a great prospect but we aren't in the poorhouse over here .

Lawrence better get awfully Mobile in 2020, because those skill guys you just rattled of aren’t Olinemen.
If anybody wants a history lesson on our current run, it didn’t peak until Dabo and the Staff prioritized linemen (Hyatt,, Wilkins, Crowder, Lawrence, etc).
Unfortunately, this priority has either dropped off or we are getting outworked on the recruiting trail.
I’m a huge Dabo supporter, and I believe it will get fixed, but I will not be shocked if we are an 8-9 win team in 2020.
For comparison, UGA’s last three OLine classes (c&p’d from another board):
2017 - 5-star - Isiah Wilson 4-star - Andrew Thomas, Netori Johnson, D'Marcus Hayes
2018 - 5-star - Cade Mayes, Jamari Sayler 4-star - Tray Hill, Warren Ericson
2019 (so far) - 5-star Clay Webb 4-star - Xavier Truss, Warren McClendon
Meanwhile, in the last 3 classes, we have gotten 1 5 Star, 1 4 Star, and 4 3 Star O linemen.
So we are not only getting less players, but the less are more developmental guys as oppose to 3+ year starters.

A couple of injuries or evaluation misses, and we could lose to
At ND SCar At FSU (dont assume they will be down forever with their talent)
Doesn’t even take into account GT, who will look different, BC, Cuse, NC State.

I echo this. i fear we will be h=getting hammered in the next 2 years. i see very little movement in recruiting for our line. it appears our competition is trying to step it up and throwing money at facilities and staffing. Recruits will start to pay closer attention to them and Clemson will inch away from being a standout.

Tell you what, if you say I have to choose between the #1 player in Alabama last year or the #1 player in Alabama this year I’m sticking with Ross.

Totally disagree. I’d take a 4 star, 3 year starter on the OL over an all American WR any day. We have 6 others that can do that job. We don’t on the OL.

This is about our lack of ability to pull top OL talent

Georgia doesn't have that problem. Don't change the conversation to..... Well we have Justin Ross; well we have TLaw; well we're in the playoffs; etc.
It's true.. we suck at consistent recruitment of OL talent. Admittedly, we do well compensating.

What a crock of cry-babies in this thread

Fourth year of CFP games and virtually the entire four years, there's a bunch of Eeyores sitting in the corner sucking their thumbs whining about O-Linemen. I bet you guys couldn't get a word in edge-wise in the TB years, what with all the holes in those rosters!
It's been written ad nauseam that OLinemen are the most difficult to evaluate because of the disparity in high school. There is no 'iron on iron' at that level, for the most part. It's also why a number of players get moved to OL during their college years...and certainly why they redshirt, probably more than any other position.
I guess the most disgusting aspect is how the current roster of OLinemen are simply forgotten, as though they're learning nothing.
Meanwhile, until the future verifies to the contrary, UGA will continue to do less with all the 'more' they can muster. It's their DNA. Tiger DNA is my preference...but go play in the dog pound, if an OL is your passion.

Great point about the evaluation difficulty of O-Lineman. I went to school during TB era and certainly had no time to worry about TNET.
Answer me this:
For every position, recruiting, the last 10 years, for kids with AP top 25 offers:
Why do fewer OL choose us in their final 5-8 schools that any other position?
And when we are in the final 5-8:
Why do we do better at every position than OL??

I'll go with the 'fact'
Dec 10, 2018, 1:46 PM

The other positions are more high profile and there are more players 'evaluated (aka: followed)' by the various 'experts'. And the best of the best skill players are at all the camps...and let's face it, a lot of those camps are geared for them. Even OL that are there seem to be fodder to show off the DT/DE prospects and it's only when an OL stonewalls one of the 5er's, that anything is said. Lastly, my suspicion is the top OL prospects all play at the highest level of HS ball in their respective states. The lower divisions have talent, but with smaller squads, again, the physical and coaching disparities come into play. So, they're the diamonds in the rough and the red shirt candidates. Look at all the small college OLinemen in the NFL. Something happened...and even more was missed, apparently, when they were recruited, or passed over.

That is tremendous insight. I have considered the NFL O-Line talent. I looked at it and you're right there are considerable numbers of non high-profile college attendees. The same can be said for some other positions however i.e. running backs. Despite the attention grabbers on the field, O Lineman are still kids at days end, and there are still "Excellent" prospects, that rarely come our direction. I think you're point about camps is legit and there is something to gain there. Maybe we should show more love to the 'big boys'.
