against Dook. I know it's the first game, and we usually play very vanilla, and Dook is supposedly greatly improved, and blibbity blah blah blah, but come on, it's Dook, and WE'RE CLEMSON for crying out loud! I've had enough of the inconsistent, sputtering, inexplicable blown plays and missed assignments, confusion and so on. I want to see some good old Clemson football, and see us play with confidence and precision, and put a whoopin' on Dook. If it's a game full of mistakes and inconsistent play, I will be very disappointed.

With coaching salaries being some of the highest in the country I agree. This team needs to be well prepared and focused…even early in the year.

In the case of Clemson football, salaries are high because of results. If we don’t get results, we get new coaches.
We’ll be just fine

I realize the clock situation this year should lower scores, but I am still hoping for high 40's for Clemson's O.

Agreed! It's been a rough two years watching this offense after being spoiled for the previous ten. Let's GO!

Me too. Duke returns 17 starters off of a 9-4 team. It """"SHOULD BE""""" a marque game given those two facts; plus they returning their QB who is one of the best in the country.
I like that they have all of the above going for them. The focus should be laser-focused and tight. The execution should be on point. Our defense knows the plays and has struggled at times against this offense. Sometimes in practice, it's hard to tell what you working with because your teammates know what's coming! So, you don't get a true read. But, when they know and still at times struggle, I think the offense in short is going to do fine against Duke.
Sean Carter #90 for them(last year anyway) is a monster inside and anchors that defense. But, our OL practices against 4 to 5 deep of him. He's a next-level player; no doubt - but our DL should have prepared our OL for big, fast, quick, powerful Defensive Line play!
I am thinking we score somewhere in the neighborhood of 35 points or better! Maybe some nerves early on slow us down; but then we crank it up the rest of the way!

Clemson returns 15 starters off an 11-3 team, plus most of our "new guys" who will be starting are 4 and 5-star players.
I agree Dook is no patsy and will present some challenges, and we'll have to play well to win. But we should handle Dook. Time to be done with excuses and play like Clemson.

Even in our championship years, we had games where we struggled early in the season. The only stat which matters is getting a win as style points can come later in the season

This 100%. 2016 Troy comes to mind. But by the end of the season we were clicking and beat a very good Alabama team for the natty.

We’ve underachieved the last couple of years despite having one of the highest coaching staff budgets, the best facilities in college football, among the most talented rosters in college football, and amazing fans. We have no business struggling against Duke.

At least try to rephrase your tired material. I don’t mean this as a personal attack, but you say the same thing over and over. We get it.
Hopefully we’ll realize our potential in basketball this year. I think we have the makings of a good team and I’d hate to waste it.

LSU would be similar to us in the "advantages" you state yet they have only been to the playoffs ONCE in the CFP era. ND & MI, twice... UGA 3 times, Oregon 1, FSU 1, Penn State 0, USC 0, A&M, 0, Florida 0, Texas 0. Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Oklahoma are the only programs that have been 4x or more.
My point is that having great programs and great facilities and high salaries is no guarantee of success as evidenced by most of the perceived "elite" programs in the country. Clemson has truly been special in the CFP era and the fact we "disappointed" the last 2 years is rather benign compared to some really great programs who NEVER made it to the playoffs even ONCE.

so your post makes little sense.
With very few exceptions, the programs who spend the most on football, have the best facilities, and have the best talent are the ones who have the most success.
This isn’t rocket surgery.

Except, as the numbers show, many who have similar resources are not making the playoffs on a consistent basis. The point being, it ain't all purely about who has the best resources and funding. If it was then many of these programs would be regular playoff participants and they aren't.
Having the best resources is one thing, what you do with them is entirely something else. Clemson's ROI has been 6 playoffs in 8 years. No one other than Alabama has been as efficient as that, and only 2 others have at least 4.

63-9 for everyone who sees the game.
I'm telling you, ESPiN is spinning hard to gather viewers after the long offseason when no one paid them any mind. They have FSU and LSU hyped up way beyond reality. You don't win 7 games over 500 or less opponents then come out the next year ranked in the top ten. It's hype.

indicative of what the team is capable of. I would imagine, especially with a new offense and a relatively high strung new young QB, we may take awhile to smooth out our offense.
Duke is very experienced, but their secondary is small. I can see us pounding on them with our running game and getting the ball out quickly to some pretty good sized WR's and TE's to force their smallish secondary to come up and make tackles. We'll eventually wear them down, but it may not be the well oiled machine we all hope for.

Just stop. The combined record of the 9 teams Dook beat
Aug 30, 2023, 9:23 AM
|
|
in 2022 was 41-65. They beat no ranked teams.
Does Dook have a veteran, experienced team? Absolutely. Will Dook be a pushover? No. Can we play like crap and win? Probably not. Do we have to give Dook their due respect and play well? Sure. But ...
Clemson should be a truly elite football team. The importance we place on it, the money we put into it, our tremendous success at an elite level over the last decade, our recruiting, etc., all places us on an entirely different level than Dook. Sure, every now and then Dook could get on a magical run where everything comes together, and they could have a very good team while Clemson could have a slighty off year, and Dook could very well beat us in such a scenario. There is absolutely NO REASON to think that is the case this year. Dook is being built up to be some kind of dark horse powerhouse, and while they may win a lot of games against weak teams again, and may even be competitive with some good teams, if Clemson is truly a playoff contender, as we should be, then there is no way Dook should be a real threat to us if we play well.
