College Football Fan vs Clemson Football Fan (Road to CFP)
Oct 17, 2022, 3:18 PM

I have to say, while watching the Alabama/Tenn game this past weekend, I was torn as to who to pull for. When I first turned on, I was pulling for Tennessee. But near the end, a thought entered my mind: "This would be a perfect way for Clemson to get snubbed" - now that Tenn and Georgia are top in the East and Alabama still likely to win the West (with a SEC championship game). Then add either Michigan or OSU, I could easily see the committee rationalizing a 3 SEC team CFP. There's a lot of football to be played, but believe that an Alabama win would have been better for Clemson.

Relax

An undefeated P5 conference champ has NEVER been left out. And it won't happen until the very rare condition occurs that there are 5 undefeated P5 conference champs.
There will be talking heads suggesting and debating and, like every year, there will be worrying and fretting... but relax. Win and we're in.

Yup, as long as we all win out, it’ll be:
13-0 OSU/Mich 13-0 Clemson 12-1 SEC champs #4 will be over the collection of 2 non champ SEC teams, at 11-2 and 11-1, and other 12-1 champs

Still an outside chance

Of TCU winning the big 12 undefeated and/or UCLA winning the PAC 10 undefeated.
It ain't gonna happen, but that would be the only doomsday scenario where an undefeated Clemson even has to sweat a little about getting in (and even then 3 wins over top 15 teams and our pedigree gets us in).
But again, it ain't gonna happen. Every year folks worry about it happening, and it never does.

This^^^. Talk to me in 4 more weeks. This thing is going change allot. To the point where the debate may be over all the 1 loss teams and whose loss is better.

There could be four 1-loss SEC teams at the end

if you throw in OLD MISS.
You know there is an ESPN clown somewhere that would pitch 4 SEC teams.

If we are into SEC bias, let's go whole hog.

1. UGA beats TN by a FG on the last play of the game. 2. Bama beats Ole Miss by one point on a TD the last play of the game. 3. Bama beats UGA in Atlanta in OT.
Final ranking: 1. Bama 12-1, SEC Champs. 2. UGA 12-1, only loss was in OT to the #1 team in country. 3. TN 11-1, beat #1 and lost to #2 on last play of game. 4. Ole Miss 11-1, only loss was to #1 team by 1 pt.
There you go. The perfect storm if you are an SEC guy.

Exactly what I'm saying. I would think that Clemson winning out puts us in. But this is exact scenario that could create debate, then you never know.

Throw in the Big10 winner and we have another spot taken. We should be fine, just thinking through the various scenarios.

ESPiN regularly picked four SEC teams early in the season...

to rank in the top four.
The playoff committee is challenging that logic every year placing two in the seeding with the very one I though should be omitted, being Alabama, which won the championship that year. I admitted I agreed that Bama was the best team that year.
I do not believe the Committee would pick a one loss team over an undefeated power five conference champ. Clemson fans have stressed over facing that dilemma for years now.

Team is coming into the Valley Saturday for homecoming. I bet Dabo has his guys more concerned about that!
Clemson really needs to have a few CONVINCING wins to close out this regular season. Just winning may not be enough.
Let’s hope we can hang about 45 on the orangemen and the cardinals. Shouldn’t be a problem with the yardbirds.

Well, no one outside the SEC will give a hoot about the playoffs, which I'm sure the television networks will absolutely love.

Maybe it would have been better if 'Bammer had won. It really depends how it all plays out over the next 6-7 weeks. The Tide could very well lose at Mississippi. Not likely, but you never know. And Tennessee has to go to Athens on November 5. I like Georgia in that one. And Meeeechegan has to travel to Columbus, where they haven't won since what seems like 1492. TCU still has to travel to Texas and Baylor, difficult games. Ohio State goes to Penn State in two weeks and hosts the Wolverines on November 26th. Not likely to lose either one, but one never knows, do one? Syracuse comes a calling on Saturday. The Tigers (I think) will win. Honestly, I think the Tigers will win all their games, including the ACCCG. They should then get in.

Don't want to beat the horse to death, but a three or four

SEC team scenario in the present CFP lineup would be the death knell of the CFP, as we know it.
First to revolt would be the B1G, followed by the Big 12 and Pac 12. I would hope the ACC Commissioner would grow a pair to join the fray. Honestly, I envisoned such a scenario from the beginning and why I strongly supported an eight-team playoff.

Between the SEC and Big 10 there's a really good chance there will be 5 teams with zero to one loss. The question is will the committee value a undefeated conference champion over a one loss team from these 2 conferences. The media bias is not good for Clemson. Just hope the committee thinks differently. I feel certain that Clemson has to go undefeated to get in. There's a lot of football to be played.
