to ~140th in Team Defense.
In Brownell's 13 seasons, it appears only two prior teams finished above 100.
2016-17 17-16 [6-12 ACC] 2021-22 17-16 [8-12 ACC]
1. Is there any question remaining as to just how bad the Atlantic Coast Conference is this season?
2. It appears this Brownell team has no real identity; can that bode well as Clemson moves deeper into the 2H of the season?
3. Is it complacency? Has Brad's intensity & desire waned with his widening waistline?
A lot more questions than answers after giving up 87 to Wake. Hopefully Brad gets more involved in the remaining games before it gets out of hand... again.

the first loss tends to lead to 2 straight losses usually after a run. Hopefully Brad gets them energized for VT. They will most likely be at 6 straight losses and hungry for a win. All those losses were pretty close.

we are all pulling for this team. I just hate it feels like 2006, when Wake Forest won the ACC in football. It wasn't fair that people talked about the ACC being bad, instead of WF being good, but they did.

Don't be a hero, like all the time. The defense is supposed to be Brad's strongsuit. We have some people who can score, but we're not going to accomplish anything with that defense.

We definitely missed our starting PG and have major depth issues at guard without Hemmenway as well, but that's a good WAKE TEAM AND WE WERE ON THE ROAD. I'm not worried about that loss...just need to protect home court Saturday against VT.

We were without 40% of our starting lineup last night.

And unfortunately, those 40% were backcourt players who are critically important on both ends of the floor.
How would our football team have done this year in a game without 40% of its starters? Yeah, not well.

It’s almost as though he doesn’t realize multiple non-starters have better per minute offensive AND defensive stats than the 20% of our starting lineup that has missed multiple games.

We were good defensively KJ McDaniels' last year.

We could play good perimeter defense and if we got beaten, KJ could block or alter the shot.
Those defensive numbers are surprising given the assertion by many that Brad is a good defensive coach and our use of the entire shot clock on offense limiting the opponent's possessions.
The ACC is really bad this year, which is good for Brad. I used to be a huge Clemson Bball fan, but I have lost interest in recent years. Maybe it's college basketball in general, though I've never cared to watch a non Clemson game, or maybe it's something Clemson specific?

Coaching plays into both effort and execution. Clemson’s “bigs” are solid but not rim protectors so guards have to prevent drives to limit both layups and kick outs for threes.

Last year all the experts talked all year about how bad the ACC was, but yet we ended up with 3 in the final 8. Sometimes we think we know, but really don't until the games are played. I think this team's identity is a good, balanced team. We can beat you inside and outside. They are not complacent, they play hard.

Where does Alabama rank?
In other words, team defense is probably not a great indicator/predictor of college basketball success.
That being said, I appreciate the sophistry in highlighting the way JK approaches a football topic, with malice and a hint of plausible deniability.

Brownell led teams have been "known" for their Defense.
Jan 18, 2023, 8:39 PM
|
|
It is his trademark, his signature brand, his forte and reason Barnes liked, then suggested him to TDP.
It has nothing to do with Alabama and everything to do with Brownell "coached" teams not performing to the standard.
https://www.greenvilleonline.com/story/news/2013/12/13/clemsons-defense-disarms-furman/4028785/ Defense is Brad Brownell’s primary focus. Yet, he understands few players share his passion for stingy stops.

I’m just saying Team Defense is probably not a great stat to judge a team on. Bama is somewhere around 180 in Team Defense, however they are 6th in Adjusted Defensive Efficiency. If you want to criticize this team for a lack of defense, I’d do so based on a better stat like Adjusted Defensive Efficiency, which we are also pretty poorly ranked in.
Although BB has had some very highly ranked teams in that category in the past, this is not one of them.
What actually does make this team more fun to watch than teams in the past though, is this is the first time in nearly a decade that we can win games by scoring 75+ points, when we used to only when games if we could hold our opponent below 65+.
I’m ready for Brad to go as much as the next basketball fan, but I’m not going to say that the team this year hasn’t been fun to watch. But I’m ready for a new flavor.

Nothing.
This team is failing that standard. And yes, defensive efficiency relative to that standard is poor at best as well.

Mama mia! I’m not saying Bama has anything to do with this team. Follow along with me now. Bama has a very poor Team Defense stat, but they are good team defensively when adjusted for efficiency. Ipso facto, team defense is a stupid stat. Feel free to criticize the team all you want, but shouldn’t you attempt to do it intelligently, lest you stoop to levels henceforth never achieved outside of the one and only (except for all the scoks) Smudge Feller.

established in his career and then at Clemson.
Alabama and how Alabama handles its business is of no value to Brad and this team's failure to meet his standard.
It's fairly simple, unless it's made otherwise. Maybe you're just not bright enough to be in the conversation?

Lol, you can’t bring up a stat to criticize a team then ignore the unreliability of that stat when it’s clearly pointed out by screaming “Strawman!”
You are right this has nothing to do with Alabama or how Alabama handles its business. It’s about your cognitive faculty and inability to extrapolate the uselessness of your factoid from the parallels to how those metrics are used on other teams.
More like liveliquidimperfect, if you ask me.

Against Wake Forest our basketball team failed math. I can understand loss with one starter not playing due to injury. But can't except down the stretch while losing by 10 they stopped shooting 3s and took time of clock and shot layups and dunk or two. My other favorite basketball team College of Charleston when they are down the keep shooting the 3s which saved them last night. Clemson basketball mens and ladies should play College of Charleston every year. Clemson soccer mens and ladies should play College of Charleston ever year. Clemson softball and baseball should play College of Charleston every season. Those comments sent from Tiger Lady Tiger Nations to Clemson AD.
