I think Dabo will leave soon...

He has said before that he would leave when college sports become professional. We are there. With the portal and NIL, in some ways, it is worse. At least in professional sports, players are contractual bound for a period of time. Now in college, they can play a different place each year. And with NIL, many kids will just be about the money. Finally, the tampering that is now either ok or impossible to control, will change the landscape entirely. Say what you want about Dabo, but standing by his convictions and beliefs is pretty constant! I would not be surprised by a departure in the not too distant future.

Dabo also said DJ was our best option, countless players are “day to day” only to be out for weeks/ months/the season. Dabo has said a lot of things.
He’s got 100+ million reasons to stay. If that’s not enough, it will be for someone else.

owner out there that had enough faith to completely turn the franchise over to him. And, that ain't happening. I can't see Dabo, with his penchant to button down every decision, ever putting himself in the situation where things like personnel decisions are in the hands of someone else.
Also, in the world of Instant Gratification, much like Matt Rhule, I don't think Dabo would be given the time it would most likely take to gather the players and coaches he would ultimately need to be successful. He would just become the latest in a long line of college coaches who found out that coaching in the NFL is a COMPLETELY different animal.

I hope not. most of us agree we don't like where college ball is headed but Dabo has a place of influence and I hope he will use it to continue to steer the ncaa toward more common sense. However, would Dabo leave but still coach I could see him perhaps going to a smaller school. He hardly needs the money.

I don't see him coaching anywhere else either; college or pro. He would probably get on the speaking tour or begin another foundation to help mentor and impact young people.

I don't understand why this keeps coming up. The contract is for 10 years and 115 million. So he has roughly 104.5 million owed (salary goes up each year). Someone on the board really thinks he's going to walk away and leave that money on the table? Have you seen the house he lives in? Can you imagine his current spend? Doubt he's going to flush all that down the toilet to coach HS ball or start a ministry.

One trait of success people who love and are passionate about their endeavors is that money isn’t a motivator. Dabo eclipsed that point a long time ago. He’s doing what he loves. The money and success are byproducts of that to him now, but it doesn’t motivate him.

I do think Clemson will be his last coaching gig. As CFB turns into more of a sub-Pro league, he'll lose his taste for it. Maybe transition to something where he can still help young people.

And where would he go in coaching that these issues don’t exist? If he leaves due to those problems, I don’t think it would be another college coaching job. Pro is not his style so I don’t think he’s going anywhere soon.

What if ALL players were on a 1-year TP contract?
Dec 6, 2022, 12:51 AM
|
|
On the surface, I know this will sound crazy, i.e., your going to propose “punishing” 80% non-TP because of the 20% TP players?
The 4-year scholarship contract is already extinct.
It may not be punishment, but an invaluable education in business and management.
I think we can see the schools have no leverage anymore in managing their rosters.
They already have to manage a yearly, mandatory turnover in their rosters due to eligibility limits (will the eligibility limits be next? Maybe).
So, instead of the uncertainty of who is going to enter the TP, agree that EVERYONE goes into the TP to RENEW their annual contracts with the team that they want to play for. The university provides tuition for NON-Nil players and a 10% tuition discount for Nil players with contracts greater than or equal to $250K/year. Multi-year contracts would be problematic, so stick with a 1-year contract.
All players would necessarily have to secure agents, as Nil players already have, so there would be commissions that would have to be accounted for.
The business lessons and life lessons that demand performance and value from the yearly negotiations are of enormous value to EVERY player (Nil & NON-Nil).
Look, it seems that this situation is already here for 20% of the players, with just about everything to lose for schools trying to manage a roster. Move the other 80% into the TP, and do what NFL teams have to do every year in managing their rosters, except for the multi-year contracts.

He would face the same challenges wherever he goes if he coaches in college. I certainly don't see him as an NFL coach so unless he plans to retire early, I don't see a lot of better options for him.

I think a lack of QB talent leading to a couple of six win seasons would run Dabo off quicker than anything. Can't see Dabo limping along with a mediocre team beyond a season or two. He's got too much pride in what he's done to become just another schmuck cashing a paycheck.

I kind of see him doing the opposite. Setting out to show the sports world that the portal can be used appropriately and that loyalty and trust and team unity can still win the day. See it as another challenge, if you will. He never seems to quit on anything, although he talks about it. I don’t think WCS has any back-down and walk-away in his DNA.

11 years is a long time. Dabo will be 63 or 4 by that time and will have grandkids, so retiring then will be normal. I am sure his wife will let him know that it is time. They do a bunch of good things outside of football and I am enjoying the ride for as long as I can. I can only plan. I just do not get very specific anymore or develop long timelines. Waking up tomorrow seems like a good aim for now.

Dabo might see it as a challenge at this point. He seems to be the sort of person who likes to "climb the mountain."
