I don't quite understand DJ's transfer

Dec 5, 2022, 2:45 PM

Yes, it looks like Cade will be the Orange Bowl starter, but what happens if he stinks it up? It's only been one full game. I think he will do fine...I think he will do great. But honestly, I thought the same thing about DJ coming into last year based on his two games his freshman year. Cade could also get hurt. After Dabo sticks with DJ all year, it just seems weird for him to hit the transfer portal right away. Why not wait until after the Bowl game?

I live in the Atlanta area and remember listing to the build up to the Clemson/UGA game last year. I thought we had the game in the bag because I was so expecting great things from DJ. I never in a million years would have expected how these last two years have played out. Right on the heels of the weird Covid year, we get these past two years of blah quarterback play. I expected so much and got so little. I do appreciate his attitude and I wish him well. I just don't understand why what happened happened.

I'm very excited about the future, though.

reps Saturday, because the staff probably knew DJ might hit the portal were he benched.

Frankly, I believe that's the best for him at this point, and, of course, I wish him the best.

I think the original plan was graduate in 3 years and go to NFL. Now he needs to go somewhere and have a good season to impress scouts. He could stay for the bowl but there is a lot of competition in the portal and he could get injured in bowl. Better to go now.

This isn't just about Cade being better than DJ

Dec 5, 2022, 3:18 PM

It's about DJ hitting the ceiling here and needing a fresh start.

After what has happened the last 2 years, he really can't return. Just think about it.

It's true there are no guarantees wherever he goes, but staying at Clemson after failing so badly is just not an option.

Re: I don't quite understand DJ's transfer

I think this was a mutual decision where DJ is going to a team that runs more of a pro style offense and presumably has a better offensive line.

He was always a pro style QB, not an RPO guy.

I don't know if he will make it to the NFL but the raw throwing talent seems to be there if he can get out of his own way and if he doesn't have to worry about being hit on every play.

Sometimes a fresh start is good for everyone.

Dabo told him Cade's the man. Even if Cade plays poorly,

Dec 5, 2022, 3:29 PM

we need him to take the reigns. We simply moved on from DJ after Cade finally proved he was the man.

It’s not weird at all that’s not how the world works anymore.

Who cares?

Dec 5, 2022, 3:31 PM

Even if Cade stinks up the place DJ wouldn't be any help. He'd add to the stench.

Everyone on the team, including coaches, has known that Cade

was the better QB, all year.
