but isn't willing to spend more on it.
Please stop complaining unless you are willing for Clemson to actually support basketball with more money.

Yes, but it's also a mindset.

We have NEVER consistently supported basketball as an athletic department and university. I see so many people complain on here about basketball, but when it comes time to update facilities or hire a new coach, they caution about spending too much money.
Those people would rather get unnecessary bells and whistles for football than essentials for basketball. They think we pay Brownell a huge salary when we don't. They think we spent a ton of money on Littlejohn renovations when we didn't. It's a significant lack of perspective.

Brownell does get a ton of money. Much more than he has earned.

What do you mean? You don't think beating Liberty in the NIT deserved a 6 year contract with a raise?

He makes more than coaches at Notre Dame Iowa State Dayton and Xavier. He makes more than the coach of the number one team in the nation.

You think he should make as much as UNC Duke Zone Kansas Louisville? Those coaches have earned their money.

So around a Million a year is not a huge contract. He went from making 150k a year to hitting the jackpot

They were much needed, but they don't automatically make us a basketball power.
How many posts this season have said that the renovations were wasted money? Answer: a LOT.

I'm complaining about today's performance too.

But I'm also wanting Clemson to spend more on our next coach and not settle on a mid-major head coach or assistant. I don't think most of these people complaining want that. They whine and complain, and when it comes time to spend money on basketball, they cringe and get scared that legitimate basketball expenses will keep the football team from having a big enough slide in the newest football facility.

I agree I wish more cared about basketball as much as football. I think it is getting there though. You can tell we want to win as fans with all the complaining.

Judge, Because of a variety of reasons I have only been to LJC once in 45 years, but as a former IPTAY member on a tight budget I still find the time and means to follow Tiger BB. Been doing so since 1972 when Tates Locke was in his first year. Do I think Clemson needs to change the culture and support BB like every other major sport? Heck yes!!!
Brownell is a fine person, but l cannot see Clemson getting a better replacement unless the admin. and Trustees make a long standing firm commitment. I am waiting to see what happens, but I don't think NIT bids are the answer.
Go Tigers!

I don't think NIT is nearly good enough. We should expect NCAAs every year.

But that takes a bigger financial commitment. I want our school to make that commitment, but I don't think the average Clemson fan does. They want to continue being cheap about basketball, but keep complaining because we aren't better.
They can't have it both ways.

and will get whatever it asks for. So the idea of any Clemson sport "taking money away from football" is very flawed thinking.

We have plenty of money to give football AND basketball what it needs. I think a lot of Clemson fans are scared that really supporting basketball somehow makes us less of a "football school" though. Which is stupid.
Why can't we be a football school and a basketball school?

It's All About Recruiting!!!

Until we get someone who can recruit and develop players that can actually SHOOT the Ball we will never be any good. I've seen the same game for the last 20 years. We defend well, we hustle, we rebound ok most nights. What we can't seem to do is actually SCORE THE BALL. It blows my mind. I see high school teams that shoot better than this EVERY FRIDAY!! It is hard to watch. Even ouremember supposed star, JB can't score consistently unless he is 5 ft from the basket. We will get better very quickly if we start recruiting shooters at every position instead of ATHLETES that actually can't play the game!!

If Brownell had these facilities when he was hired rather than getting them in year seven, I guarantee that we would have recruited better. Maybe it wouldn't have been enough to save his job, but you never know.
It is really hard for anyone to recruit when there is no history of success, poor facilities, and a perception that the program is not a priority to the school.
That's why we MUST capitalize on these new facilities with a strong hire. Clemson's brand is as popular as ever, and we need to start sending a signal now that we are committed to basketball.

I donate quite a bit in iPTAY money plus capital gifts and have season tickets to football and basketball. I figure I am an average fan.
I expect to be competitive in all sports. If we need to make changes to be more competitive it is up to DRaD... looks like he is trying with the new facilities.
I love the new littlejohn. I love the DJ and the MC that gets everyone going. I love the light show... what a cool idea.
I wish everyone would stop hating on basketball or Brownell and get behind the team until the season is over. After the season it would be time to access what changes are needed.

We just spent millions to upgrade our facilities...

and we gave Brownell a generous contract extension. There are coaches out there who achieve more than Brownell and his staff with MUCH less resources.
So basically, just spare me with that nonsense. Find a coach who can get the potential out of his players and who can inspire them to buy in to his system, and we will win more games. Recruiting will improve and we won't have to rely on transfers who don't fit together.
Get a competent coach and staff to help him. We spend enough NOW to have that.
