Kenny Hatfield took his 14th-ranked Tigers, all recruited by Danny, into Williams Brice and won 41-24 over Sparky Wood's pathetic Gamecock Roster.
From that point on Hatfield showed an inability to recruit and develop players at an elite level.
Hatfield successfully ushered in the demise of the Clemson football program, which would consist of 20 years of wandering in the wilderness. For his many “accomplishments” he is not considered a beloved coach by most Clemson fans.

We will never know how good of a HC Ken Hatfield would have been at Clemson because he followed DF and did not ever receive or the administration. The lack of support from the fans and the school had a negative effect on recruiting. So I believe Clemson’s Administrators and our fans a partly to blame for Ken Hatfield’s lack of success in recruiting and wins at Clemson. He won at Arkansas but Danny Ford was fired for lack of wins at Arkansas.

I remember we almost fired DF in year 2 but look what he accomplished in year 3 a NC. I have always wondered what Coach Hatfield could have accomplished at Clemson if he had the support he needed.
