Helmet Rule...
Sep 3, 2012, 1:12 PM
|
|
Clemson needs to get a replay of the Auburn players wrenching Boyd's helmet and send it to the NCAA. The players who did it should have to sit a game and we should include a note that say unless this rule is changed, if one our players gets hurt because of the moronic, ill conceived rule, we are going to sue the #### out of them.
Total BS rule that is not only a competitive disadvantage, but put a reward on dirty play.

It is an ok rule

it just needs tweaking. I noticed a lot less helmets coming off in general over the first week.

Reviewing the play to see if it was a penalty isn't going to

do much good for the first kid that gets his neck broken. Then they will suddenly "see the light" and realize the rule "endangers" players.

Helmets popping off like they were at times

endangers kids too. Something had to change and this is what we have. They will change part of the rule to fix the helmet ripping off (probably a "point of emphasis"). I think we can agree that the rule wouldn't be here if 1. helmets hadn't been coming off as much and 2. 1000+ players were not suing the NFL about head injuries.

more than 1 or 2 helmets coming off per game last year. Better rule would be for ref to flag a player if play starts without his helmet strap on. Wouldn't catch all, but would be far less dangerous.
I noticed that the Auburn QB had a much more secure looking chin strap than what our helmets had. Brand difference?

This rule has created more chances for injury than not

having the rule every did. Dirty teams can exploit the rule to get star players off the field at crucial times.

Give it more than 1 week to see how the rule is. Coaches will be on the refs about twisting and pulling

Here is an easy fix
Sep 3, 2012, 2:01 PM
|
|
Enforce existing rules for facemask, unnecessary roughness, etc. Also, the defensive player flagged has to sit out the next play.

I think it would be a good idea for the facemask rule to be extended to the entire helmet.

Automatic ejection for the ones like I saw on Tajh

this week. They were putting him in a headlock and twisting the helmet off. Fifteen yards and sitting out a play is not enough for that.

I noticed it on several occasions myself and was disgusted with the lack of a call of unsportsmanlike or personal foul!!! It was a well officiated game except for those calls, or lack of calls I should say. I am sure the tape will be reviewed by league officials with the SEC, ACC, and NCAA but I'm sure nothing will come of it, unfortunately!!

the helmet at the beginning of the game - do away with chinstrap snaps and put screws right into the helmet.
One of the worst rules ever!!!

Worst rule ever....

It was obvious with the number of times Tajh "lost" his helmet, it was being ripped off, and of course, not a single warning or call from the ref's.

in our game and the syracuse game. Somewhere like 4 or 5. The helmets need to have the strapping system re-engineered. Slapping someone on the wrist when the helmet fails doesn't help the problem but unintentionally ads the issue of the D playing dirty.

for kickoffs and punts.
Just like that aforementioned rule, the helmet rule and the new kickoff rules will be gone soon because they hurt the brand and water down the game.

Some poster said there was a penalty for ripping off a helmet. Other than unsportsmanlike conduct what is it. Is there a specific penalty?

I know I mean Tajh's helmet didnt come off 3 times all of last season then 3 times in one game. Once after the super tightened it and it about pulled his eye brows off when they tore it off his head.

I don't think more helmets were detached from their owners more than last year, I just think it was highlighted more with the new rule.
