John "Bull" Cagle, D lineman for Clemson's back to back to back ACC championship teams from 67-69 went home this evening. John, his father, and his uncle played for Frank Howard at Clemson. John was drafted by the Patriots in 69 and spent one year there before moving on from football.

Cagle very well at Clemson, as he and I were there the same years.
About as easy going and nice a fellow as you could know, but a beast on the gridiron under Coach Howard. Sincerest sympathies to his family and friends.

I remember him and wondered if Valerie was related to him but I have never heard she is.

win ACC championships in 1968-69. I was there then...we were terrible! Those were Howard's last two years coaching.

Bull was there from 65 thru 68, Clemson won the ACC in 65-66-67. However, you are correct, we were horrible in 68-69. I played on those teams and we were really bad. Those 2 teams led to the retirement of Coach Howard and the Hootie Ingram era, which was even worse.

Clemson, football seasons 68-71, was the worst four year stretch in Clemson football history, ever! I think we only won 3 or 4 each year!

Played with Bull at Clemson. He was quite a character and a very good player on a couple of the best defensive teams ever in the Frank Howard era. RIP big guy.
